How does the main beam bulb secure in headlight unit?

Hi Guys

I am replacing a blown bulb (main beam) halogen H7 bulb 2006 E85 and I am trying to replace the bulb into the reflector and I can't seem to get it to secure. Does it just push in or do you have to twist it? There seems to be two lugs on the wire connector that may do something. I have replaced the dipped beam no problem as it is a push and twist design but can't do the main beam any ideas.

Thanks
need to get this in there

Oh well, as nobody seems to have ever changed their own main beam bulb it looks like I'll have to take it to a dealer. :x

Hi, I’m assuming you removed the blown bulb yourself-how did it come out?
I never replaced the main beams on my e85 but the dipped ones weren’t difficult from memory :?

Reverse engineering - nice

(I've never done the main beam either)

It's just a twist fit. The lugs on the holder go under the torx screw heads. If it won't go in, you probably have it upside down.

Cheers Mike, I will give it another go tomorrow. I might have to take the wheel off to get a bit more room.

They are not difficult, just fiddly to get them to fit with poor access. I ended up taking the front wheels off.

It is a bit fiddly- I changed my main bulbs back along for some upgraded bulbs and yesterday I replaced the 5w sidelights for brighter Osram bulbs.
I just turn the wheels on full lock and didn't need to remove wheels. The fittings do seem of fairly low quality, though!

i was initially trying to insert 180 degrees out as i thought the lugs were symmetrical but they aren't and i didn't realise the lugs had to go under the torque screws (thanks Mike Ducklakeview)
