After chatting to the missus today about how we spend our hard earned, we came up with a bone of contetion. She,bless her, says in her spare time she uses the gym and enjoys the occasional holiday either with me or one of her girly mates. I on the other hand, amongst one or two other things regarded the ownership and running of my Zed as a hobby. "Thats not a hobby" she said......which got me thinking, how many of us would describe their enjoyment of their cars as a hobby or merely just a nice car they like owning

Bit of both!

I love my car, but I love driving just as much if not more.

Driving is the hobby for me :driving:

Mine's definitely not a hobby, but it's much more than just a car.

My Z4MC is my only car and it has to do everything from getting me from Liverpool to London on a regular commute, to getting me around Oulton Park or the 'Ring.

It's more of a soulmate - albeit an unwashed one

Apart from the upgraded sound system im currently working on the Z4 is just a car for me. New, reliable and used daily. I dont plan on modding it.

My hobby car is my Mk1 Mr2 which ive spent a small fortune on and will be getting some more work done on it this summer.

I list cars as a whole as one of my hobbies amongst travelling, shopping, clubbing and the gym. Not just the Z4 as a lone hobby, as i spend many a weekend doing car orientated things wether it be shows, meets, track days or just spending the day under the bonnet of a car or doing exterior modifications, even just going out for a random drive, all with many of my friends who are interested in cars and we have a very wide variety between us. Or simply just spending a good few hours washing and waxing the Z4 to me is included in this hobby as i enjoy doing it.

My car is not just a hobby, but is like my friend. :) I spent 7 hours washing and polishing it at the weekend. If something is wrong with my car. I don't sleep well at night. I like to understand how each part of my car works. I love my car. :D

I love my MC but i dont consider it specifically a hobby of mine. I love driving but i also love cars of all shapes and sizes, old and new whether they might be fast or not I will find something interesting in each of them.

The Z4 is a sports car, a mighty good one and i treat it as it a sports car should be treated. I dont baby it (at least not after it's warmed up) and i honestly dont care if it's clean and shiny or not! It still drives the same and sounds the same doesnt it? It does look quite tasty when clean though but i think there are few things more evocative than a properly filthy sports car! That's why i really like mmm-five's, signature!

Now that I've come to the realization that our Zeds are a dying breed, I've started to baby it more. It would really suck if anything bad were to happen to my Z4, since I cannot think of another car that would come close to the overall experience I get with my Zed. It's sad really... The relationship I have with the car is akin to pet ownership. It's part of the family. Hell... I've even named my car. :o

That being said, though... it's still just a car. And cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. I think I'll do that right now. CYA! :driving:

Cars and driving in general i guess are a hobby to me, but i wouldnt say to someone 'hey one of my hobbies is my Z4' I enjoy driving and maintaining it, but not in an obsessive way.

It's a loaded question on this forum cos most of us are car mad and love our Zeds.

If it's your second car, i.e. you run a more mundane set of wheels for everyday use then it's got to be a hobby. I run a Citroen C2 for work. I save a lot in fuel and wear and tear but the Z4 is a hobby and I pamper her whenever I can :)

My Z is a hobby as is driving it going to shows are race meetings they are all part of the same hobby and passion i really love my car as i did with my last one always keep it spotless where possible she is due a full days detailing soon :D :D

I guess your right sammyz, a bit of a loaded question but the poll results are not quite what I expected. I did nt expect any indiffrents really, but was curious to know thats why I started it. Much like you I ve got a Kangoo van for work so the Z4 is just a weekend toy, but trust me I play quite hard with my toys

Hm, how about none of the above? A car, sure, gets me from A to B, but it's also a car I catch myself turning around to look at as I walk across the parking lot. It's a car that gives me confidence on the road. It's a car that just damn fun to drive. I haven't modded it (except for an OEM strut tower brace) and it's still a hoot. Mine's a daily driver and I don't see driving anything else. If I have to drive the F150 (it's a nice one-Lariat edition) or the X5, I can't wait to get back into MY car and have a drive. :driving:

Its a car.......... it will lose money, need tax and insurance, go wrong and need fixed, drink gallons of petrol and oil and other fluids, get scratched scuffed dented like every other car i've ever owned, annoy the hell out of me at times and thrill the hell out of me also, it will carry me to and from work, keep me dry in the rain and cool in the sun, will be used every day, cherished on some, ignored on others, somedays it will make me smile others it will drive me mad, its my CAR, not my pet or my child or my significant other, but it is MY car!! Hopefully for many years to come yet too!!

It's a hobby but I'm not OCD about it. Well maybe a little. It gets the space in the garage and cleaned more often than all the other cars put together. I still look back as I walk away and when weather permits long rides to nowhere are the norm on weekends. I park it with the other Zs when I find them, usually out in end of the parking lot. Get's me from here to there for cheap money but that is not what a Z is about. I like looking at it and looking at others on this forum and elsewhere. There is something about a 2 seat roadster that makes people happy, especially when the rest of the world seems to drive some kind truck or luxobarge. There are a number of good 2 seaters out there but the Z3s and 4s are a little special.

i love my car. it gets me from point a to point b with a smile on my face every time.

and the mods have just begun.
