How do you turn off the Self Centering Steering?

If you put the two bars side by side, the M3 one's not much bigger in diameter (I'll measure) but the M3 one is far beefier and also is nearly twice the weight, I think the M3 anti roll bar might be solid whereas the standard Z4 bar is hollow.
I'm sure Machine Monkey did the same thing and also praised it heavily :)
 
Anyone got an M3 roll bar going? I'm going to do the bushes and the drop links so may as well try and beef up the roll bar.

e46 m3 rollbar is 26mm.
The z4 rollbars (24.25mm) are not hollow.

But the difference is noticeable (I too use the m3 front anti rollbar and in the rear a H&R anti rollbar).

Compared to the m3 (or z4m ) the 3.0i z4 is pretty light in the front (no hydraulic steering, full aluminium engine instead of cast iron engine), so it doesnt need that much of a stiff rollbar. My experience is that the rear is more in need of stiffening up (rollbar wise)

My mistake, I've just had a quick check of my old one and it is most definitely not hollow, serves me right for writing a post just from memory!

For me though, the actual stiffening of the front end was a fairly minimal difference, it was the way the steering feel was improved and how much more confidence that gives you when driving that was the real bonus. I do agree though that the rear of the car could do with some stiffening up, did you manage to find just the rear H&R bar or did you have to buy front and rear? As I can only find them in pairs so far.
I'd be very interested to hear about the difference the H&R rear anti roll bar makes after fitting the M3 one to the front, I would presume it balances everything out a bit better and helps turn in?

Will the e46 M3 rear bar fit the Z4?

No it won't fit. The m3 has a different diff+different subframe, so it also can't be adapted without serious welding to the subframe and diff.

CSL is 30.8mm indeed. Z4m is 27mm (just as the H&R front one, but that has 2 adusting holes)

I bought a seperate rear H&R rollbar on german ebay.
I wanted to stiffen up the rear after I analyzed video from my car on a small driftcourse. There I could see that the rear outer wheel was dropping down when I jerked the wheel and the car started to drift.
I did the rear H&R antirollbar togheter with a complete polybush at the rear so it's hard to tell what effect attributes to what mod, but after that the car felt much 'wilder'. The stock rear always felt like it was dragging behind the car, but now with the steering it feels like the rear wants to point the front of the car in the right direction. But maybe the polybushings (especially the front bushings in the trailing arm with the limiters) may contribute to that too.
As for stiffer anti rollbars, I got a similar effect when I installed coilovers with linear springs.
Linear springs stiffen up the car at small bumps (so a little bit more nvh), but progressive springs are really weak on the small shock movements, so when just turning in you always get the feel that the car wants to lean over. With linear springs that is far less and the linearity of the springs also means that the feel of how much the car will be 'ducking' in corners is more predicteable.

In the end it's all about balance between the front and rear axle.

The only thing I'd like to have is a quicker steering rack or maybe less casterangle in the front to get the initial turn-in even more agressive (the latter one is easier to get obviously with some good camberplates)
