How do you start your car?

:rofl: I did that with my landcruiser, turned the key with it in gear to move it forward a couple of feet so I could drop the tailgate onto a loading dock....chased it across the parking lot, caught it just before it hit the fence. :oops:

Now .....Almost everything here has to have the clutch depressed or out of gear/brake pressed to enable start function
 
Always dip the clutch,habit, as my company car and my wife's car need to have the clutch depressed in order to start them.
 
I tried dipping the clutch to start - the gearstick still shook same as if the clutch was raised. I'm guessing CDV?

I've never started a car with the clutch depressed unless I've left it in gear due to a hill.

The gear lever shaking is simply the starter motor shaking the engine and engine firing which in turn shakes the gearbox and lever. Nothing to do with CDV, that just let's the clutch release slower to protect the drivetrain

My bad. I thought because of the CDV the clutch may have been engaged still (at least a little) when I started the engine.
 
About 90% of the time I start the engine with the clutch depressed. The other 10% of the time is either carelessness or just feeling a bit daring that morning.

Nice tip about checking the brakes. Not sure what turning to position 1, waiting and then starting the engine would do differently as opposed to starting the engine straight away.
