Hello,

I'm looking to dismantle a set of leather seats and exchange the leathers with my standard cloth trim. Does anyone know how to dismantle a seat back to the frame? I haven't been able to figure this out :?

the reason i'm not just bolting in and out seats is because the leathers are electric and I don't have the wiring in my car for them

any help much appreciated

Rob

Hi Phil,

Thanks for that.

I'm not intending to remove the fabric - i agree that would be a job to far! What you have said is what i need to do, i seem to be doing what you did in reverse going from electric to manual.

I had a look at the bolts on the front of the base and after unscrewing them there is a bar in the centre that connects the two sides holding it in place, do these need to be levered out of place? I've seen half way down the underside of the seat where it looks like the seat base pushes back into place so i think i know what you mean there its just how i go about releasing the front.

I couldn't see how to remove the upright back at all though any advise on that?

thanks
Rob

OK - dismantling is easy, just a case of figuring out which bolts.

Backs first as that gets rid of the volume/weight. Feel the hinges at the back and work up 2" to 4" on the metal and you'll feel 2 torx bolts on each side under the upholstery. Remove and the back lifts off vertically.

Bases. Nothing needs levering. Just tip the seat over and follow the base shape and it becomes obvious which bolts hold the frame together and which the squab in place. IIRC it's just 1 torx bolt on each side. The squab then lifts up and forward out of the frame off 2 hooks at the rear.

Can't get to my Zed at the moment and if I could I have to take the seats out just to look so not an option

As an aside are you sure you don't have power for them? I would have expected the loom in place anyway as all will have at least the seat belt tensioner and passenger airbag sensor.

EDIT - nice wheels - not seen 108's sprayed up black before

thanks for your help, and on this point the only connection from the loom in the car are the ones your mention in the middle i think labeled 'B', so A and C are absent (electric motors and heating element i think - but i wasn't planning to do heating anyway). I thought i may be able to get the loom for the other connections but after talking to the parts guy at bmw Maidenhead it was clear he wasn't going to be able to help the situation

EDIT: also the light weight of the manual seats will be better for my fearsome 2.0 motor

I've got the seats apart! Quick clean and then time to re-assemble thanks for the help cj10jeeper!!!

Now i have a set of electric seat bases going begging - maybe wire up some new lounge seats in the living room!?

Glad that worked. Don't give them away too quick. They would cost a fortune for anyone wishing to convert the other way
