How do I search now ?

Hi all

I'm try to search on the new iPhone forum layout. On the old I could search for '3.0 to z4m' and it simply searched for those 3 words.

No it won't. Even if I add +'s everywhere.

What message do you get when you search for your term?

When I search for that term I do not get a result because the words are too common. But if you search for say "roof cleaning" I do get results shown on the iPhone 6.

So as an example. If I search 'upgrade to a z4m', it only searches for 'upgrade to' and ignores 'z4m'.

If I search for just 'z4m', I get the message

'The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: Z4m.'

Same as if I search for a '3.0i'.

I have noticed similar and thought it was just me :?

Using the search facility certainly doesn't produce the goods like the old version did :headbang:

Really :o that can't be right surely, I'll go and give it a try

*Edit* - You are correct sir, I wonder if it has anything to do with the indexing and query strings. Hope its just a glitch which can be sorted easily

I had the same problem. New search is awful. As said before, new layout is just not as user friendly as before. Sometimes on my mobile, on the main forum screen I can see any topics, just the main sub forums. It's very buggy at the moment.

Agree it's is a tad buggy on my android mobile also :(

How's about rather than saying stuff like "the new search is awful", you try bringing things to my attention. We replaced the forum-built search with a MYSQL native search, which should be faster, but I had no idea it ignored words <3 chars long. I have altered it and re-indexed, so it should work better now.

Believe it or not it isn't my mission objective to ruin your life and make you have a bad forum experience, I am trying my best here.

Let me know if the tweak has made things any better. Worst case we can re-implement the old search, but the native one really should be faster and better if I can configure it correctly.

Thanks sp3ctre, the search now seems to be sorted :D

Just one other thing, is there a fix to sort out the issue with peoples location being displayed, it used to be underneath their avatar but is no longer there. There has been some chatter on the subject but no definite answer so far http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79820 and http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79954&p=1177248#p1177248

Sorry wasn't trying to offend. I thought I must have been doing something wrong.

Thanks for making adjustments. Is it possible to recognise engines sizes ?
At the moment the search removes the (.) from 3.0 so it looks like 3 0 instead ?

Thanks

Hi,

Not sure about that, it may be a limitation of the native search, but I'll have a look and fix it if it's possible to do so.

It's still under their avatar in desktop view, it's missing from the mobile view to save space. I'll look at implementing it at the same time as some other stuff I have planned, but then others will complain it takes up too much space etc...

I guess you won't be able to please everyone all of the time, but thanks for trying sp3ctre
