How do I make the Z4C sound better

I'm not impressed with the sound of the 3.0 Coupe, is there anything we can do to make it sound "better" without doing expensive things like changingthe exhaust?

Is it possible to remove the foam from the sound generator in the Z4 Coupe 3.0? Does this model even have a sound generator? Will modifying the air intake help? Does this cause problems elsewhere (fuelling, consumption)?

IMHO Removing the sound generator makes the car sound chavvy. I tried it on mine and made the mistake of taking the car to work the next day without tryng it out properly. It droned something cronic. Couldn't wait to get home and replace it. If you want the car to sound nice and throaty invest in an exhaust or an induction kit.

Play around with the foam inserts and see if any of the variations meet what you want to hear. I am assuming that it is your ears that want to hear a tone or is it that you want others to hear a certain tone?

I removed just the foam piece near the bulkhead. I like it!! :driving:
Problem with induction kits and exhaust systems is they rarely improve performance (sometimes make it worse!!) and it sounds a lot louder to everyone else! That's what the sound generator was designed for. It was designed to give the driver and passenger the sound of a V8 without making loads of noise to people outside the car! Now that's chavvy! :poke:

I tuned mine after experimenting with different configurations of the inserts. K&N filter will also help. This won't do a thing, however, if he wants a tone to be projected to others outside the vehicle.

Just please don't "rice" it. I'd rather have a more subtle sound and sneak up (and around) people than "all blow and no go" those kids do. Just sounds cheap....

I think the Z4C probably sounds ok to people outside, but I'd like to hear a better sound inside the car.

Does the 2007 Coupe actually have the sound generator?

It seems strange to me that a guy would spend a lot of money to have a real great sound system in their Zed and then want more noise inside. Of course most of the music of the day is nothing but noise anyway. Boom, boom , boom and boom. Ok I’ll go back to my nap.

AFAIK, we do so just take out the foam. Watching the BMW plant on the history channel a few nights ago, seem pre-facelift it was a difference in the amount of padding in the dash area rather than the " sound pipe" arrangement. At least, that's what I got from that interview, but the guy asking the questions didn't follow up, dang it.

You want to try the GruppeM definately makes a difference to the performance without being too loud. Nice when giving it WOT and nice and subtle the rest of the time. But the coupe is hardly the quiest car with out...

 Yes, what you said wazzzzman. Remove/block off the sound generator which is totally useless performance wise and invest in an exhaust/cai (pick one). You'll be able to hear your music or passenger inside while it's louder outside for others to be impressed by. But the bottom line is, it's your money so you can spend it as you wish.

Sounds the same (pretty much) in normal driving but delivers a treat when you put your foot down. Not cheap though.
