How do I know who’s calling?

I have the factory Bluetooth with Sat Nav and I've been puzzled by this since I've had the car. How do you know who calling you?

If you are in the Bluetooth screen when the phone rings then it displays along the top alternating Name and Number. If you aren't in the Bluetooth screen how do you tell? Do you have to go to Menu/Telephone wait for it to change from number to name while it's ringing? (by this time I've missed the call) Or am I missing a shortcut?

Also while I'm at it is there an easy way to change folder on an MP3 CD. The only way I can see is to press Sel then navigate to folder then select folder then move up and down using the knob. Again am I missing a shortcut?

When the phone rings, mine mutes the sound and the name is shown on my satnav screen. The whole screen goes black except for the name that appears on the screen.

No matter what is on the screen at the time, Intravee, Satnav, radio - does not matter.

Used to have the same with a blackberry. Doesn't seem to work fully with the iPhone 4S as it just shows a call is incoming - suppose it depends on whether the phone book is loaded or not (although apple changed the security on the latest iOS which may also play a part)?

It's a combination of the version of BT module in the car and BT implementation on the phone. Some combinations provide more features than other. e.g. some phones will display inbound sms on the screen.

So it sounds like its an iPhone problem. I'm on the latest iOS and the phone book loads just the screen doesn't change.

I have the iPhone 4, but I only updated the OS from 5. something to the latest yesterday. I have not used the phone in the car since so I can not state that it still works with that.

I find that generally when you answer the phone you find out who is calling... :poke:

What happens if you don't want to speak to the person ringing you? By the time you've answered it's too late!

So by the sounds of things it's phone dependant on what happens when it rings.

So for people who don't get the screen change on incoming call what's the easiest way to quickly swap to telephone?

To echo the comment re bluetooth there are 13 generations of ULF module by BMW most fitted in the in the Zed used over the years.

Add that to many phone manufacturers and each with multiple software releases and I doubt any 2 of us will have the same set up.

Mine is similar to PVR's in ulf module, phone and OS, but I get muting and no name displayed. I also upgraded to new os 5.xx yesterday and have yet to test it.

I was using sat nav yesterday (which I don't do that often) when a call came in. The screen swapped and showed who was calling!

I then changed the display to half radio half sat nav after the call dropped and when the person called back it showed again.

So it looks like the unit is split in two audio and computer (telephone/sat nav) so when you are in the computer bit it swaps but when you are just in audio it doesn't. So the next time someone rings I'll try switching the radio/cd off and see what happens. Just need someone to call me now ;)

Mine still works after the IOS upgrade, I got a call in the car and the name appeared.

My screen was on Satnav at the time.
