How do I get exhaust pipes shiny again?

My exhausts have gotten this dark spot on the inner base of each one - what's this caused by and what can I use to get them shiny again?

Whatever you do will just be a temporary fix.
They are exhaust pipes.

A dremmel with a polishing tool would be my choice!

That's where the moisture from the engine sits and drips from - other than keeping it clean with Autosol (NOT ANUSOL :P ) the only solution it to powdercoat the tips black so you can't see it!

Autosol x 3 with very little effort they can look like this and looking at your exhaust tips they would come up very shiny

I tried using a stone polisher attachment on a drill (in same fashion as someone else did with a Dremol) - by using this lightly on the inside of each exhaust, they each look like this:

(It appears that I've cut into them, but the rings of black muck are the deposits which are still there and they've come up nicely from being black). Would autosol get the rest off? (where does one buy this - Halfords and B&Q don't seem to sell it).

Use a maroon (course) then grey (finishing)2" or 3" scotchbrite disc with a holder and use an electric (rechargeable ones are too slow) power drill or die grinder. Drill does a great job, btw. For use on the inner diameter. This is a 1/2 hour job and they will look great.

Used Autosol afterwards and results are superb.

However, I did use a stone attachment on the drill on the insides of them (which I now understand is probably too coarse and meant for sharpening!) - the insides do now look a less shiny version of the outside of the pipes.

Is the inner bit supposed to be the same shiny finish as the outside or are they more matt on the inside? If not, how do I get the shine back, or have I grinded this away?

Open it up more! :poke: :P

What do you mean lol? I might not get as much chance to open it up - have twice as many exhausts to clean after all :poke:

I have always used the Auto Glym metal polish on my TT. Does the trick.
I know PaddyW also uses this on his Z as we tend to detail the cars on the same driveway.
