How do I fit these....

Hi,

I've read various threads on here about fitting facelift headlights to pre-facelift Z4's and how hard/impossible it is.

I found this on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110436984635&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

It's from a newer 56 reg Z4 (mines a 54/2005 Z4) but I notice from the description that these headlights have halogen bulbs rather than xenons... would that make the fitting process easier?

As you can see from 90% of my previous posts, I'm trying to find a way of getting clear indicator headlights on my zed and I'm running out of options! :(

cj will be along in a min. 8) iirc, those fronts would work but the backs were always the pig with the lcm, but dont quote me.

I don't know why but my understanding is that it wont work, pre and post facelift lights do not mix, the only clear indicator headlights that bolt straight on are from the 2005 car, unless someone knows different in which case I would be very interested to know what to do.

There's a 2005 car with clear indicators? I'm interested... but chances of those coming up will be slim I guess.

If anyone knows how to fit the post facelift ones though, that would be a great help. Salvage seems to be the way to go because BMW want to charge in excess of £500 per light which doesn't suprise me.

Dubious internet on the train and I can't see the image of the lights on Ebay, so a generic response.

Post facelift won't work in a prefacelift. It can be done but needs wiring and LCM changes.
Xenon and halogen are not easily interchangeable unless you change or reprogramme the LCM. Easier for some is to do a xenon retrifit, Whic I don't like is in theory illegal, but is cheap and quick.

As posted you need pre facelift 2005, clear indicator halogens for a direct swap.

Rears are near impossible. I only know of a couple ever doing it and am told it needs a later LCM, programming and wiring. Remember of course that you need a new rear bumper cover as the lights are a different shape

Right, well in that case does anyone own a 2005 pre-facelift Z4 who eats plenty of carrots and can see pretty well in the dark? Because I want your headlights :D

I had a quote from a dealer for a set at a smidge under £700 earlier this year. Still saving....
Ouch! I'm not that desperate for them :o

Saving up for new lights for my van too - the standard ones on VW Transporters are crap, I need ones from a Caravelle (minibus version).

Yeah, I think that now too but at first I was hating the orange. I suppose we learn to live with what we have!

Saying that, if a set come up cheap I'm sure I'll be one of the folk fighting for them...

Dealer price on halogen clear indicator pre facelift is around £350 per light. That is of course supply only.

You shoudl be glad you're not after the same in xenon as they are around £750 each side

£700 is a lot of cash for different colour indicators! Why couldn't BMW just fit clip on front headlights! Would save me a lot of hassle! Ah well, better start saving. I'm accepting donations :P

You would cry then if you decided to upggrade to xenon from halogen as the total price inc lights, bulbs and ballasts is a little over £2,200 OEM :headbang:

Manufacturers always launch cars with things like amber indicators as it's a real easy way to later on change and make the car look newer. 2005 was a great trick to make it look like a facelift and get more sales before they did the facelift in 2006
