How do I connect an iPod the modern way?

Apologies for asking but I thought this the best place.

What is the easiest way to play songs and charge an (old) iPod. It doesn't have blue tooth. I bought a lead from ebay and now have aux in through a 3.5mm plug but that's rubbish.

All I want is to charge the iPod and it to turn off when the car is turned off.

I've been looking on line but most stuff is years out of date.
 
Intravee and alpine kca-420i with wake-up mod - you even get to retain the steering wheel controls, works best if you have Nav

Use the search to look for intravee and you'll find plenty of info and a couple of installation threads
 
You're probably looking at something like a Dension or an Intravee. Though I'm sure someone will be along soon that knows more about this than I do.

I've had a Dice, and an FM transmitter. I now have an intravee and its miles ahead of the other solutions for the music access alone, let alone the additional features.

One caution though - do you have a MFSW and Nav console unit? Without these you may find a cheaper option preferable.

Pros:

Its cheap!
Excellent sound quality
USB port - spoofed as a magazine from the CD changer so will play up to 6 folders of music as 6 CD's. Also 4gb USBS are really cheap now and really easy to swap USB sticks so it means you can have a load of "6 CD magazines" in the car
Micro SD Card - spoofed as another magazine from the CD changer so will play up to 6 folders of music as 6 CD's
Gives 12 folders of music as opposed to 6 with the CD changer
Aux input
Bluetooth for both phone calls and music streaming
Small - so fits in the glovebox


Cons:
You lose the CD changer - this is not really a problem as it gives you 2 spoofed CD changers at a time
Bluetooth doesn't display caller ID or track names.
You can initiate call from the head unit, it has to be done through the phone screen you can answer through the head unit though
Don't get track IDs on the CDs

All in all I'm happy with it didn't cost much money and was relatively easy to fit, once I had got my head round the centre vent fixings, also the ebay seller was really quite helpful given the language barrier
 
I'm going to try this, (only £10) it takes the digital signal out of the iPods bottom connector and converts it to a analogue input which I can plug into the aux in on my Business head unit (via a lead). It needs a ignition switchable live, I may wire it up without a cigarette lighter socket, I always use my iPod on "shuffle". this will give me fast-back/forward, next/previous track, pause/play. I will have to find somewhere to fit it where I can operate it without making holes in the dash???
