How do I check which version/update my sat-nav unit is on?

Hi guys,

I would like to check my sat-nav version and upgrade it if there are any newer versions out there, but I have no idea how you know which version is running on it? Any advice? Also, if there is any update available is it just a case of burning the new software to a dvd and then loading it into the dvd reader?

Edit: Just to clarify I am not talking about the maps version but the actual "operating system" of the sat-nav.

Thanks

Patrick

Go into the settings menu and you will see SW x-y/zz In the upper right hand corner

It should say something like SW 4-1/00

x should be 4 indicating that it's a MKIV nav
y shouild be 1 indicating that it's the full colour 'high' nav system

zz is your current firmware version
00 = v31 or v32 (latest official versions, released in 2008)
91 = v29.1 or v30 (BMW didn't update the number between releases)
80 = v28
71 - v27.1
70 = v27
plus you'll find others that tend to be 0(something), these are usually a v32 firmware that has been modified

Thanks! Will go take a look now and report back!

Ok so my version is SW 4-1/01 so im guessing this is a modified firmware?

On my satnav disc (which i think is a copy/fake) it says that it is compatible with postcode search but I cannot find a way to enter a postcode which is pretty annoying having to enter a full address every time. Any way to do this?

It's hard for people to give advice as it's a custom/fake map disc and there's no way of knowing how they've implemented the postcode functionality - you'll have to figure it out, but as a pointer for somewhere to look, lots of the modified map discs have the postcodes added as POIs

Oh right, I understand now! I'll take a look, thanks. :thumbsup:
