How do E85's cope with high mileage

Hi there

I am in the process of looking for a 2007/8 2.0 Sport and am about to view at a car which has done 65k - I just wondered how Z4's cope with high mileage as I will be putting quite a few miles on it over the next few years. I could hold out for a lower mileage car but this car appears to be perfect and the mileage is reflected in the price?

Grateful for any thoughts.

I just sold my 2.5 2004 E85 with 125,000 on and had no problems with it at all. Absolutely flying still.
They have good bullet proof engines, so as long as they are serviced well they should keep going. The M54 engine is the one you want though.

Welcome to the forum. 65k is nothing really in this day and age. I notice it's the 2.0 your buying and having had similar size petrol cars with around 100k on them as long as it's been looked after and serviced well you should get many many miles out of it :driving:

Just to give you an idea I bought my 2003 3.0i with 92K on it and it drives beautifully and pulls like a train.

Hope it all goes well but don't be afraid to walk away if you have any doubts at all
 
CoolZ4 on here got 233,000 miles out his 2.5i. Only major work was Vanos after 180k (ish) if I remember rightly. The car only died when a Micra smashed into him...

Bet the Micra was Fecked too. :D

OP Agree with the others. I have owned several cars with north of 140k miles by the time they moved on. Take a look at used 3 & 5 series. Most modern cars can hack it with ease. (Just not French ones.)
 
Hi Tim i got my 2.0l 2yrs ago i have since put 40,000 miles on her taking her upto 120,000 not had any major problems standard stuff really it
had 2 broken rear springs when i got her biggest thing i had to do was change the valvetronic motor my indy said that its quiet a common fault had to
change a lot on 3 series, even now 2yrs down the road every time i take her out still puts a smile on my face good luck with your purchase :thumbsup:
 
Many thanks for the replies. I am looking to view a 2008 08 Z4 2.0 Sport with 65k next week and from what I can gather it is in good condition apart from a badly scuffed alloy. I may be able to get the car for £7200 after a bit of negotiation and wondered what you all think about the price?
 
Bought my 3.0i on 82,000, now 150,000 no issues to speak of - I do 15,000 miles p/a.

Sounds like a good price and definitely not a "high miler"
 
2006 3.0si here on 101k and loving it.

Budget for a suspension refresh though. Same as any car on this kinda mileage or age
 
129k on my 3.0 2005
15k a year as a daily and she still sings with no major issues just the usual z4 faults
Springs,roof motor ,bushes,window regulator,drop links,brake pipes,windscreen wiper fix,split air pipes,leaking door membrane,brake dust shield corrosion,cracked third bake light
Other than that nothing really :roll:
 
My E86 is on 82K and still going strong (just going to touch some wood). :lol:

I'm sure someone on here was talking about advertising his E86 that had 200K miles on it not too long ago!

Let's face it, 65K miles after 9 or 10 years is less than 7,000 a year on average so hardly high.

I had a choice between a zed with 49,000 miles and one with 65,000 for around the same price. The 49k car just didn't seem as well looked after, and didn't feel as tight on the test drive.

It's not about the amount of miles, but the kind of miles the car has done, and how well it's been maintained. 49k miles done by a boy racer with a heavy foot and a tendency to wait until the warning lights come on the dash before he has it serviced by his mate, is way worse than 65k done by a careful owner.

I opted for the higher mileage car.

You should judge it on a case by case basis.
 
Had an 05 2.2 from 67,000 up to 129,000 miles. Only had to change bushes, brake pads, front calipers and a headlight bulb. Everything else was perfect until the day I sold it. Roof motor has never been changed. These cars are pretty exceptional all things considered. Just make sure the one you buy has been looked after and you should be fine. Don't worry too much about mileage.

Looking forward to gaining this sort of mileage in my new Coupe :D
 
I reckon you should link high mileage cars to a mature woman, a mature woman who looks after herself can still give you one helluva ride over a younger model..............errr or so I'm told darling Mrs Fox :cry: :cry:
Mileage like age really means nothing, I've seen low mileage wrecks & high mileage beauties! As long as she's been looked after, my money would be on fsh, nicely used/high'ish mileage one & there are some bargain hi-milers out there!

same for me, as it is my daily driver. don't need a bigger boot/trunk to often so i get away with it.

Mines still going strong stuck another 40k on her she just short of 160k now :driving:
