'Fly' is a good word.

Too obscure to guess, but in essence 20m back is a really savage single track canal humpback bridge. After the crest of the bridge there is noting untoward for 3m, followed, by some nice gouges in the tarmac, then 5m of tremendous skid, then piles of glass and the car parked 5m on.. All on the wrong side of the narrowing road.

I summise the guy on a Saturday night got some big air over the bridge, landed and skidded square on into an approaching car...Ouch
 
Takes me back to my first car as a 17 year old - a brown Austin Allegro 1.3 when I used to go tearing down the country lanes and jumping humped back bridges, racing my mate in his gold Mk1 Ford Escort. Happy days!

When I was about 18 one of my mates had an Austin maestro that he'd inherited from his grandfather. We hit a jump in it one night and the gearbox fell out :cry:

They did. My 1963 Mini had seat belts in the front, although not retracting, so were awful.

Also used to jump my Mini, but always had to be careful as the gearbox fins at the front were always the point of impact as the suspension bottomed out

That's about the best thing that you could do to a Maestro TBH. Hateful cars. Thankfully my mum destroyed ours by driving through a deep(ish) puddle before I came anywhere close to driving and inheriting it.
 
I saw a maestro rear end a Volvo, to be in turn rear ended by another Volvo. I think you get the picture. It was much smaller than designed when finished and the roof popped off the B posts :o

Both Volvos drivable, if illegal from smashed lights
