How cold is too cold to lower the roof?

Title says it all really, it's a lovely sunny day here today, however very frosty. By putting the roof down, in cold conditions are you putting extra strain on the mechanism?

Read the manual :poke:

As a former e85 owner you know the rules :D

On the e85 I believe it won't activate at -20 or below, and you shouldn't put it down if it is frosted or frozen. As for the e89, I'd guess you'd need to be sure the seals are not frozen to each other, but if they are not then it should be down mate 8)

As above, the car won't operate the roof past a certain temp but at low temps you risk damage to the seals more than anything else.

It's 6.5 degrees here - needs to be sub-zero on a sunny day to consider leaving the roof up. Not a cloud in the sky, will be going down :P

It's 0c here today, but the suns out so I will let the car warm up out side, put my had and gloves on and roof goes down! Too nice for anything else!

Told a lie actually - 6.5 degrees was the garage temp, hadn't been outside long enough. It is actually 0 here

Roof still down though

From an enjoyment perspective, never too cold if you have a good woolly hat, gloves and preferably heated seats. Cold frosty mornings are delightful to drive in with hood down.

This is the perfect winter weather for driving top down. Heaters on etc, nothing better than that crisp feeling.

Washed mine yesterday - my haaaaaaaaaands

Warm weather only for me i'm afraid! I always say to my missus 'look at that cock with his roof down in this weather' must be fuckin freezing even with heated seats on high and thermals on :slaphead:
.......while we're on the subject, why oh why do you see people driving with the top down when its raining......STOP, PULL OVER AND PUT THE ROOF UP YOU MORON (usually Boxster drivers too!!!!)

 agreed

the heating (blower and seats) work a treat. according to the manual it fgoes into some form of 'extra heating' IIRC. So providing the car itself isn't frozen, then get out there.

I was out in -8 in FEb this year. Hat, coat and heating - so very cool, and really confused all the other drivers…. but I was having fun, so my gain

I was going to leave the roof up on the way back from shopping today as I thought Mrs B would be cold... Got told off because it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, so down it went. I love my wife 8)

Put the roof down this afternoon, loved it , but other drivers looked at me like i have two heads, looked in the mirror, no just the one, they just dont know what they are missing :driving:
