How can you tell if a car has a Tracker fitted?

As per the above posts - my car came with a tracker

I had to pay them money to reactive it, which included a visit where it took him over 1 hour to find it, even though his database gave it's location

I was also charged an additional £100ish on my insurance

I didn't renew the tracker maintenance the second year...

Your better off not knowing. If car gets stolen, your insurance requires that you do everything possible to recover vehicle, this includes activating a dormant tracker unit. Tracker charge a premium to activate stolen units, guess who pics up the bill for that?! Get ready to add it to your insurance xs!!

Tapatalking on my iPad.......

Mine has a tracker. Told the insurance company they tried to charge me an extra £200 for having one! I was like wait a minute....

The obviously the fees for the tracker. Wasnt worth it! Was going to cost about £300 more!

Flux didn't charge more. They didn't need a tracker and I activated it as I wanted to as the car is parked in the street and I'd like to get her back. When I called them hoping for a bit of discount they actually added it to the requirements for the insurance!

Direct line required a tracker and were cheaper than both flux and Admiral

Well... I'd like to suggest on a public forum, would recommend not saying whether your Zed does or does not have a tracker... and... if there is one fitted whether it's active or not.

By definition a Tracker will reduce insurance company's costs (by reducing the potential payout if a car is recovered rather than disappears), yet they charge MORE for having one? :dizzy:

Perhaps the forum-affiliated insurer can explain that one because I'll be f**ked if I can figure it out...

I would expect they have some convoluted statistic that shows that the percentage of cars with trackers fitted get stolen more than those that don't, hence why they charge an increased premium :x

Its about £170 a year subscription.

Rung up to see if my insurance would be cheaper with it, and it made no difference.

Seems stupid they put more on the insurance when its an aid to help recover it quickly!

Insurance companies really do have a lot to answer for. I despise them, i was done out of £80K by them a few years ago. I still havent let it go yet!

If the most stolen car is a Ford Fiesta or so, shouldn't the insurance companies insist on trackers on those cars?
