How can people do this?

Gutted for you mate and its a real shame you can't find who did it, personally i'd extract their testicles with a spoon

With regard to insurance claims how do you go on if you have protected/guarenteed no claims?
If one claims for such a thing how does it affect the insurance premium the following year? I take it the premium is ramped up but you still get 70% off the new premium?

Or does the guarenteed no claims discount aleviate this? I think probably not.

Even with protected NCD, as you suggest, they stick you in a higher risk category so that your basic premium rises.

And being utterly pedantic, the question insurers ask is "any accidents or claims in the last umpteen years?", so theoretically, even if you don't report or claim, one ought legally to respond appropriately. But then how would they ever track down the fact if you'd done it yourself.

They even ask about "losses", which means that even if you don't claim, it still is classed as a loss and therefore higher premium.

This is why in cases like these, it's best not to even enquire about a repair via the insurers unless you fully intend to claim. If you ring them about it and then don't claim you're still going to have to declare anyway.

Wheelie - The protected NCB doesn't mean that your premium won't go up, it just means that you keep the same percentage discount.

E.g. if you have 5 years NCB (normally 70% I think) then your discount off a base premium of £1,000 would obvously mean you pay £300.

If you then claimed and your base premium went up to £2,000 your Protected NCB would mean your new total premium is £600.

If you hadn't protected your NCB and lost half of it for the claim then your total premium would be £1,300.

In a nutshell, you're still screwed, but not quite as much if you have the NCB protected!

off topic, but peddy if you live in the Boltons why are you driving around in a z4????

but yes, surprising, a mate had his flat done over at gunpoint one night in the boltons..

Another reason we Bought the SLK and the E89 as there are mindless Fuds out there

You can't second guess vandalism.

Who carries a knife, and then decides a roof needs cutting.

Much easier for a vandal to pick up a brick/block and put it through your screen, or dint your roof panel making it not close properly needing costly replacement.

It's rare I hear of roof slashing anyway. I most often see keying down multiple panels which can cost £1000's to get right (whole side respray/blend)
