How can people do this?

I feel your pain...

I had my Corsa's side mirror (pavement side) smashed after a couple of days of ownership and then again on the same road my Zed got keyed!

All on the same road... near you in fact, so you might know it.... The Boltons (off Old Brompton Road). If you know the road then you'll be as suprised as me! :x

The roof price was that on the invoice, from which I had a copy to ensure that if I sold the car I could prove what had happened to it. This is 5 years ago though so don't know if the prices have changed as such.

I do indeed know that road, but surprised such things go on. How much did the Zed mirror set you back?

Its becoming a second job trying to look after this motor, I am very tempted to either buy another small run around or sell the car altogether, its too stressful having to always worry where to park and trying to keep it mint.... or I just use it as any bog standard car and not really care about it as much.

I would be interested to get some thoughts on other roof fitters such as http://www.carhood.com/bmw/? Rather than claiming and potentially increasing my premium, to get a £700 roof from here?

Regards,

Ams

This was what really put me off a convertible and onto the coupe. I live in a reasonably nice area but all it takes is one dick and this is what happens. OK someone could key my coupe but it would be easier to fix than a knifed roof.

Its a shame that we cant have nice things or if we do have to spend all our time worrying about them and I am not even that much of a worrier compared to some!

Sorry to here about your car, most of the time this sort of thing is done because they don't have what you do and some idle lazy f***k believes they have the right to do this. This is a link from one of the other forum member who had his roof damaged, not sure if it will help but it was fixed without a new roof. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25288&start=15&hilit=roof+damage. Good luck.

I know what you mean, its mad.

So for those interested in the cost of one hooligan knifing your Zed roof in 2011 is... £2772.95. *Congratulations, you have officially been shafted!*

So the link Dave put up earlier from the cooper-bmw-parts website is £1325, thats just for the EXTERIOR canvass. Then with the two other layers, it pushes the final cost to £1801.

Labour + VAT - £971.10.

Grand total for fixing a morons damage - £2772.95.

That is an utter joke the insurance company will have to deal with that.

Regards,

Ams.

Bastards ! It may be worth your while having a look at this link, I was playing around a few months back and as far as I can remember , a reclaimed roof from these guys was around £ 500, http://carparts.breakeryard.com/cheapcarspares/Soft-top.aspx

Sorry about your roof fella. Just absolutely gutting. Especially if you're someone who is careful with your money, you work so hard to be sensible with your hard-earned and then something like this happens. I always think how I've could've gone on bloody holiday or something with the cash.

Hope insurance sorts it ok.

what a sad and awful society we live in :(

why would anybody in the right frame of mind, do this?????

hope you manage to get it sorted :)

Crap news but don't waste your money at the dealers - its not a job they do every day so you're far better off going to a ragtop specialist and paying a LOT less into the bargain.

And console yourself with the thought that it was just your roof. Some f*cking lowlife scumbag is clearly walking around with a blade in his pocket that could just as easily end up in someone's stomach. :x

Words can't express my opinion of these people except to say that they should be severely battered and left in the gutter to die. Now then, wheres my Daily Mail...... :)

Sorry to hear. Some people, perhaps out of spite, jealousy, attack those things they know they'll never have. It's pretty pathetic.

A couple of years ago I parked my new jet black SL500 in a street spot for 2 hours. I returned to find nearly every panel on the car keyed. Luckily my liability was maxed at the $500 deductible, but my insurance shelled out $7,000 for a new paint job.

There is no consolation when stuff like this happens.

Alan, would you recommend claiming on insurance and taking it to BMW for the replacement roof and motor or going to a company such as http://www.carhood.com/bmw/?

Would certainly go with OEM roof cover but if you not claiming on your insurance a good 'Indi' should be able to do it. Worth seeing what your local dealer will charge. As in my previous and depending on age/use of your Zed worth considering at least a look at the roof motor if not a replacement if you have to take the whole roof out to repair.

Insurance is there for a reason. Just a shame it's the excess you have to find :(

Good luck with getting it fixed. At least you'll have a nice new roof!

Keying might sound preferable, but I'd prefer a new roof considering it's a wear item, vs a panel respray which will maybe not match, or look too good vs other parts of the car etc...

Maybe the roof may have failed in 4 months?!

Just trying to put a positive spin on it for you :D

Dave

Really sorry to hear this. There are some complete W**kers about. Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle and expense.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great information and feeback.

It isnt the money for a new roof that's made me :headbang:, its more the inconvenience, time invested to deal with and sheer outright cheek of people. Couldn't have been any worse timing with his rainstorm today either, although I may start a new trend with the silver gaffa tape on a black hood! I have a wedding over the weekend, lets hope I unnoticed in that :P .

The car is already with BMW and should have it back early next week sometime. Aviva were quick and efficient with the whole process and only use BMW dealers for repairs.

Thanks again for all the info and help.

Regards,

Ams

So sorry to hear this... this has been my biggest fear of owning a rag top for the last few years...prob why the insurance on the soft top is more then a coupe.

Good news on Aviva!

I was insured with them for a year, fortunately I didn't need to use them but they did seem very good!
