I'm trying to install an aux connector so I can use my ipod in the car. To do this I need to get the radio out but I'm stuck at the first hurdle! How can I remove the air vent above the stereo?

I don't have any 'special tools', just screwdrivers. I've searched the forum and google but can't find anything that helps.

If you can help, il dedicate the first song to you!

must look harder :poke:

I just successfully installed "RADIO AUXILIARY INPUT KIT #82 11 0 142 174" from bavauto.com

But it was a nightmare getting the center fresh air vents out. As it turns out, there was something fundamentally wrong with the "clips" in my case. While most people can simply insert a small flathead screw driver and pull down with no effort, my clips were already way too high to be reached. My solution was to pop the pocket clip off of a Pilot Precise pen and bend it in such a way as to pull the air vent clips down. See pics below. I used friction from the pen clip to pull the tabs down enough for my Leatherman Micra to reach it. Then I shoved a hard plastic card in there so that it passed over the clip and and wouldn't let it come back up. Then repeated on the other side.

After that it just took a combination of fingernails, credit cards, and sheer determination to get the air vent off.

I was extremely frustrated at first because so many people write that lowering the clips was no effort, whereas it seemed impossible on mine. So if there's anybody out there who really really can't reach their clips, then try using the pocket clip from a Pilot Precise pen!

Of course, after you get these vents out, make sure to rip those clips off so that they can never again haunt you!
