How can I manually raise the roof?

Hi,
I have a 2010 Z4 3.0 with a roof fault of A690 and I am trying to access the CTM unit but I need to raise the roof into the service position to access the CTM module. I have searched the internet & can only find info for the softop not how to raise the hardtop into the service position manually. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks Dave.

What is the current position of the roof? There is not a manual way to move the roof like on the E85. If you can get to the hydraulic pump, there are two brass screws that can be opened about a half to one turn to allow you to manipulate the roof panels. If the roof is fully opened or shut and latched, not sure if you will be able to move it without dealer intervention. Problem is probably due to broken/nearly broken wires in the harness where it goes through a sharp bend. I just did this repair and posted some information here: https://z4-forum.com/threads/solved-2012-sdrive35is-roof-issues-a68d.154950/

Mine was the microswitch on the passenger side but all six wires were breaking/broken. Apparently it is a matter of when, not if, these bread on an E89.

Thanks Justjeff,
The roof is in the normally closed position. I have done more research & it can be unlatched with a special tool so I am taking it to my local specialist tomorrow. I can do most stuff on cars but going to leave this to the local experts.

Many Thanks

Dave.

Good luck Dave - my experience of specialists (& the main dealer) is quite mixed for these cars, especially where the roof is concerned. Most simply have no clue whatsoever about the complex mechanism.

There is a bit of a concensus in these parts that there are 2 or 3 places in the UK that are trustworthy & will be able to sort out whatever the problem is - zed shed is one that comes to mind, sure I remember somewhere else being mentioned too.

Thanks Mat,
I am fortunate to have a BMW specialist within 10 miles. Took the car on Tuesday as they said I could leave it with them & they would fit it in when they had an opportunity but it might not be ready until after Christmas as they were very busy. I got a call to say they had fixed it this morning as they had a cancellation, problem was the rear end module microswitch. Just picked it up & could not be happier, all fixed for under £300, will certainly use them again if problems arise beyond my capabilities.

Dave.
