How Best Clean/Polish/Wax the M

hi guys

i've recently bought myself a Z4M roadster - pictures to follow hopefully when i've got some good answers from this question :)

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some good polish/wax and cleaning products to really bring the colour out? I've managed to get hold of a Sepang Bronze Roadster that looks like it's been cherished all its life and I'm keen to keep it that way.

is there a process that should be followed? I've read about the 2 bucket technique which I'll be using. wondered if anyone could offer some pearls of wisdom.

am I right in thinking Jet Washing the car and especially the wheels is an absolute NO NO?

I will be the first to mention :worthless:

I use 2 bucket method and use a jet washer sometimes but not on the hood. As for wax and polishes everyone has their own favourite, but there are plenty of articles in the Detailing and Bodywork section of the forum.
 
i go for a snow foam prewash then onto the two bucket (use a jetwash but not on the hoot) then for me its meguires ...

just take care dodo juice purple is a favorite
 
Snowfoam - yes
Iron X - yes
Two buckets - yes
Towel (microfibre) to dry - yes
Clay bar afterwards with a good lube - yes
Rinse (or two bucket wash again) - yes
Towel dry again

Then.... up to you, you can apply by hand or by machine a whole multitude of products, try http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/

I use mainly Poorboy's products. However, the best all in one I've ever come across is the trust AutoGlym Super Resin Polish :thumbsup:
 
I use the following

Iron X
Maguiares Gold Class car wash
Two bucket method
Maguiares all purpose cleaner for cleaning plastic wheel arches trim
Sonus Trim Acrylic Sealent for wheel arch plastic trims and external plastics
Maguiares Quik Clay bar and lube
DoDo Juice Lime Prime Polish
DoDo Juice Rain Forest Rub Wax
Chemical Guys Wheel Guard polish protector
 
welcome, waxes, cleaners polishes, etc etc are all a matter of personal preference, all good fun trying out new or reccomended products, youll soon find your favorites, re jet washing the wheels, i hav had a fair bit of trouble betty, with sticky brakes after even gentle spraying of the wheels and calipers so just make sure they are well dried, and i leave handbrake off , and now i roll the car every few days a foot back and forward just to make sure theyre free, but hey, dont park it, drive it ! enjoy :driving: :thumbsup:

NOT the drying with a towel, but use DI vessel with the clean water instead, less damage.
 
adamski, hi ,what is a di vessel ? i have been drying with a collection of towells as better than a chamois, or microfibre cloths, but some are a bit harsh, may buy some new terry nappies, cause mrs mad 4slalom is getting grumpy as the airing cupboard is towel less when she gets out of the shower :roll:
 
After the initial wash and dry i have been using Poorboys products for a while..

I also like Autoglym Ultra deep shine for dark cars,although a little dusty it does leave a great shine..

Wax.... Collonite 845 for long term durability... Optimum optiseal for easy to use LSP.

My favourite product at the moment is wetglaze 2.0..............leaves a superwet finish to the paint..
 
Bucket with grit guard... zaino car wash stuff (smells of sweets) and a wash mit.... towel dry, put petrol in and drive it :driving: :thumbsup:
 
When you wash out your towels. Make sure you do not add a fabric softener to either the wash or the dryer. It can leave a little of the softener chemical behind and your towels will not absorb water as readilly. As per waxes. I would say the main thing is to stay away from the all in one cleaner waxes.
 
clean a few time with hand jet wash and mits
rinse with residue free h2o
clay
polish liquid (hard coat if you will)
Caranuba wax

take a couple of hrs
 
thanks for all the help and advice guys - it's very much appreciated :).

I'm currently scouring the web for zaino, autoglym, DoDo, iron x and clay products. it's such a minefield though! you can spend some serious cash on this sort of stuff.

I have indeed bought Texas John's old car. It drives really well and looks great. - I'm still astounded by its power every time i drive it. for the next few weeks/month the traction control will very much remain ON!

Pictures this weekend after a good clean :)
 
As with others.....
if its a "quick"wash/eg.1hour or so,then its
1.Rinse off with hose/pressure washer(on low setting)
2.pre-wash with snow-foam
3.wash using 2buckets method,with gritgaurds,with
Megs Gold class wash in main/wash bucket and Simoniz waxfree wash in rinse bucket
4.hoover and clean interior,with various megs/turtlewax platinum/autoglym products
5.Dry remaining water and quick polish with Dodojuice purplehaze,and/or topup with a coat of Turtlewax Platinum wax
..also clean wheels/arches using Vibram brushes;Valetpro ph nuetral Billbery wheel cleaner,and a quick spraying of Carplan Nanoflex wheel sealant.

Oh yeah,and conv.roof gets Meguiars c/Roof cleaner,and proofer (2-3times a yr)

If its an all-day wash....
as above,PLUS
1.Full going over with a cleaner/eg. Iron-x, etc and Bilt-hammer claybar,etc
2.3-stage polish/clean with d/a polisher using sonas or megs,various polishes n pads
3.Poorboys black hole glaze
4.T/wax platnm wax and then a coat of Purple haze c/wax
5.topcoat sealant.

wheels,full clean.....as before inc.iron-x 1st,and a clean/polish with Poorboys whhelwax,C/plan Nano wheel sealant,etc

Exhausts,megs nxt metal polish (and other makes)
 
if i was you the first thing i would invest in is a machine polisher. results speak for themselves.

im currently using the menzena fine polishes as they leave a stunning finish but for compounding i would recommend G3 as BMW paint is super hard. before you wax or use a polymer sealent ive found its best to use something like IPA wipedown to remove any polish oil. makes the seal coat last much longer
 
Mine goes to the local Kosovan hand car wash. Judging by the other metal in the queue (F355, Maser GT, Jaguar XK-R) I'm not alone.
