House Key Safe

I take it the other half doesnt have a car then?
If she does you could both keep a spare key hidden in your cars.

There's a key safe outside my building in London that has been there in full view for a couple of years and no one has tried to break into it or remove it from the wall. It contains keys to the communal front door and to a visitor's parking space (so not much use) but a potential intruder wouldn't know that until they'd opened it.
I think a key safe is a good idea. Maybe you should fit two locks to your door and combine the rock and a key safe ideas with one key in each. You could even hide the key safe somewhere in your garage as suggested and include a garage key in the rock. That way any intruder would need both brute force and insider knowledge.

Not quite the same but the principal works.. When I'm surfing I have three options with the key.

!. Carry it in a pocket in my suit( lost my Mazda key that way).
2. Put the key in a combo lock attached to the car. (Loads of surfers seem to do this, personally I think it's askng for someone to try an nick your car, by making it obvious where the key is.
3. Hide the key under a rock a 100 yards away. This I have done for years. Just be sure know one you don't want to knows where it's hidden and there is no target for the unsavory types.

So I'd go with the rock in the back garden idea, unless someone actually knows the key is there, they aren't going to dig around your garden on the off chance.

We have a key in a rock. The key is to the garage and the key safe with the number lock which insider in the garage contains a door key. if we're out withthe dog the alarm is on. If not then the dog's a bit of a deterrent!

Thanks guys for the suggestions  .

Think I will pass on any sort of key safe as after giving it some thought anything that’s visible or draws attention to it which I feel it would do then someone is more likely to have a go at it etc if they realise a keys inside. I’m probably a little jittery as a neighbour was broken into a while back, the low life managed to get the back door key through the cat flap and nicked both their cars. I think the good old fashioned put a key in a tin and bury it the back garden is the best bet then no-one will know and it’s out of sight etc and as said someone would need to dig the whole garden up lol :? . Just have to remember where I put it :D

Oh that's an easy one Tim, just put a big sign with a picture of a key on it stuck in the ground above where it's buried, you'll never lose it that way..... 8)

Always happy to be of service.... :tumbleweed:

X marks the spot.
You just need to carry a treasure map in your pocket to remember where it is.
Maybe leave a spade in a handy place when winter comes.

Hang on one second is Tim trying to tell us he has a girlfriend or is it really about key safes. :P :P :P :P

She doesn't sound very clever either, which is always a bonus, I married a teacher :headbang:

What about these from Yale. Who needs a key?

It would have to be diamond encrusted to be around her neck :o

Anyways why is it such a surprise I have a Girlfriend lol :? :)

I have a spare key under a paving block on my drive......

Problem is i am not 100% sure which one it is now  I know the rough vacinity.. but in the 10 years i have lived here never had to use it (as my front door has a handle on both sides so cant get locked out easily)
