House insurance

It sure is cheap up north, mine is £250 a month for building and contents.

I hope you don't mind me being a little skeptical, also, your wife runs a business from yours :poke:

Better postcodes with low crime rates also receive better quotes

Cheap insurance is false economy, how do you know the value of what youre buying? The important thing is that it pays out when you need it to. Go to the Defaqto website and look for a 5 or 4 star rated policy as a minimum. Insurance is like your safety parachute, where would you prefer to buy yours from? The Poundshop or John Lewis?

Its meaningless to compare your premiums without giving your postcodes.

As for Taz, well, what can I say apart from best of luck mate.

Just renewed ours with Aviva -£187 for a 4 bed detached with a conservatory and I could have got it cheaper if I'd gone with a lesser known company, thats in S18 1**

Not sure why people like to exaggerate on forums, but they sure do, £3.000k would insure a £4+m property in Crawley

I think you'll find a certain quote on this thread is nearer £500 max for R*** 4*Z, with the cheapest £263.00, not sure why people like to exaggerate on forums

Hahahah, a dig at me I assume. I don't think you really know what you are talking about, as you seem to think you can build whole houses and garages for 10k or so as well.

But if it gives you any pleasure ….

oh - those who have visited me know why :P

I've been in business since the early 70's as predominantly a major construction and house builder (homes £800k-£1.2m) so yes I do think I know the cost of building construction and with respect I'll ignore your silly house costing quote.

Don't need to visit your home I can see it on my PC quite easy. :)

Well, you were the one spouting the rubbish about that a garage should not cost more than 10k remember, not me. But you were probably quoting costs from during your active working life.

I am glad that you can do a valuation from the PC for the contents as well. Perhaps you can forward that method to insurers considering that they still insist on visiting in order to be able to quote, which the mainstream insurers unfortunately decline to do as it is not in their target range.

This is like comparing car quotes by the way, no two are ever the same so I am not sure what you are trying to get at. It is like stating that a two door saloon car in Yorkshire costs £100 to insure, so I am sure you pay that for the Porsche as well, right?

Don't follow you GBG, what am I exaggerating about? Just trying to give forum members a method by which they can determine the value of what they are buying should they wish, by visiting an independent ratings website, take it or leave it.

Nice motor btw.

If you cannot build a garage at cost for £10k at today's prices best to give up, you obviously don't have a clue what profit margin we work with.

All this because I mentioned my two homes, that has got under your skin hasn't it?

Anyway that's my last word on this thread.

Geezah, GBG misquoted you, I think he wanted to quote me but he will not admit that anyway 8)

GBG - I have no idea what you are on about, unlike you, I do not have chips on my shoulder what others have or not have and I take people on face value. This is a discussion about house insurance premiums, just like we have on car premiums, but for some reason you seem to have an issue on the premium I have to pay due to burglary history etc. I would love to pay a fraction of what I pay now, but since when is paying a high insurance premium something to get attacked about or be proud of? I can't see you question others when they pay a high car insurance say in Manchester quoting random figures for a random post code and therefore suggesting that they are wrong.

But please send a builder down from up north as I still have only managed to get a quote for the foundations so far for the 10k :P

I am sure he will have explained in PMs, but for some reason he has an issue with me or for that matter, with anyone who he feels he has to challenge. Having had to change his user name might be an indication that he has upset someone too much at some stage (or perhaps too many people).

When I reach his age in 20+ years time I hope I won't be like that 8)

Well anyway I reckon £240 appears to be a good price after all bearing in mind you can't get more South than the IOW :)

Entertaining exchange though

Ok so I'll answer this post

1/ I have little time for those that pretend to be far more affluent than they really are (but then again that's just my opinion), I just don't see the point sorry.

2/I informed everyone about my name change by PM that I'm in contact with because I was getting envious renderings from three posters sending vitriolic mail.

3/ It's 19.6 years actually

4/ You're doing ok as you are :P
