It certainly did!

Leafy south east here, 4 bed (2.5k sq.ft) house for £117 buildings and contents with accidental damage with Aviva (the rentals, a third of the size and for buildings only) are more!

Sorry guys, someone calling you a liar on a thread is not something I can let go by.

The good news regarding house / contents insurance is that no longer have to notify them as of next year of prior burglaries so main stream insurers will be quoting again then

Sounds promising, pvr.

I think on forums people should be able to offer up whatever information about their finances (ofc optionally), without people questioning it. Everyone as different background, surroundings, circumstances and the nature of a national forum is it's going to bring out some extreme cases.

We should all be glad we don't have pvr's insurance bill :(

I have to say it's pretty interesting to get a picture of how much this insurance can vary, i guess what you'd really want would be the total value each quote is insuring (i doubt people would be willing to print the value of their assets..), so you could normalise the premiums and see how area/history/floodrisk/city/urban affects prices.

More petrol money for the porker :driving:

My insurance went from £500-600 building and contents to over £900 after i had a burglary (£2-3k worth of theft) ... And that was with a £500 excess.

Luckily it has since gone down to £600-700 range now after 3 years.

Thats true but it also covers the wife's jewellery.. Which if lost/ got stolen would cost much more then that... Not to mention the headache for me if it was uninsured!

I think you are all very sensible really, I just hate insurance companies with a passion

another thought, if you have 10 close family friends that you trust then if you all put your money in a pot its not long before you have a very big pot

Agreed Taz. I'd not be against no insurance but it depends on the scenario, currently i'm renting so don't need building insurance, just basic contents (primarily for tech/gadgets etc)

Its a good idea to take photos of your belongings close up showing model and serial numbers etc and a general view of the room in which they are. Burn these photos to a disc and keep it stored away from the home. At work perhaps. If you lose the stuff in a fire or burglary, you have evidence of what you are claiming for. Don't make it easy for the insurers to refuse your claim!

Just done mine today, £12 pcm with home emergency cover and £0 voluntary excess. Mine seems to be very cheap, lowest quotes were under £100. Think owning a new build helps.

As for the OP, really frustrating but will always be the way in most industries to incentivise new customers with preferential rates/discounts.
