Hot weather problems

On holiday with the car and the temp was 39° While driving down the Autobahn - the Dash Cam dropped off its adhesive pad - got to go to Bmw dealer to have it fixed on Monday.

I don’t think my holiday insurance will cover it!

Even that temperature shouldn’t be a problem, parked vehicles could get much warmer. Thought about claiming warranty if it’s even remotely fresh install?

Lessons learned, I installed a cheap and lightweight Viofo on my zed and after a couple of months the adhesive gave up when parked in sun. New pad, same result. Third time, instead of of using the wipes that came with the cam, used a generous amount of of ipa to clean the windshield and the camera. It has, touching wood, now held several years.

The system has been on the ‘screen for about three years now without a problem- the only change has been I had the car valeted before the trip - I’m starting to wonder if the screen cleaning fluid has had an effect on the adhesive pad?

I’m no expert but sounds implausible that a cleaning fluid could penetrate under the adhesive in an extent to cause failure. When I had my cam fall off the windscreen, I found pre-cut 3M adhesive pads, same that came with the camera, on ebay. Iirc, they cost next to nothing.

The base of the mount is flat and the windscreen is curved - therefore there is a noticeable rugby ball shaped in the centre of the pad - I would say only 60% full contact area.

Re the Valeter, I thought that the cleaning fluid might have got to the pad thro’ a capillary action? It’s the only change in all the years it has been fitted.

The car goes to a local BMW Garage on Monday - I have some supa dupa 2 side adhesive tape at home - but I’m here in Germany so I’m stuck - I don’t want to leave it hanging on it’s wires.

Was there any residue eft behind on the windscreen? If so was it sticky? Same questions for the dashcam mounting point.

For 25 years I ran a production process putting adhesives and surface coatings onto different types of films. Was a genuine question.

The arse part though, yeah, I got nothing.

That's it, I'm outta here. A bed bath, todays paper and a Horlicks beckons
