Hot Start Issue

Hi Guys, first post on the forum and sadly it's about a problem with my otherwise superb 07 Z4MC.

I have recently been caught out twice with the car failing to start whilst it is warm/hot. First time, I had driven 60 miles, stopped for petrol, went back to start car and it wouldn't start. Sat for 20 mins on the forecourt and then tried again and it fired fist time.
Second time this weekend, 45 mins of driving in traffic, park for 20 minutes, go back to car and again it wouldn't start. Waited 30 minutes and it fired first time.

When I try to start the car, all you can hear is the starter clicking. No cranking. All the dash telltails come on, nav screen and HVAC work so I assume it's not a battery issue.

Should note it starts first time, immediately, without fail when the car is cold.

It's booked in at BMW next monday but wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar??

Update to this problem :
BMW diagnosed a faulty starter motor -no surprises there- more specifically solenoid was sticking when hot. Not quite sure why heat would cause it to stick but at least thats solved. £580 just before christmas is a bit painful though

580quid for a starter motor??? ///M tax defo added!!

its actually really easy to get to on our cars... defo worth a DIY try.....

FFS!!!

I did think about having a go myself. Won't go down well with the missus if I spend the Christmas holiday tinkering on the car though.

£580 is 90quid diagnostic fee, part, labour and vat. Apparently the ///M starter is a more robust* part.
* excuse to charge 20% more.

Yowzer... lets hope that's the last trouble you see from it, that makes the repair cheaper! I had the same problem years back on a car, turned out to be the crank sensor that went potty when hot, £40 at a local garage and she troubled me no more.
