hot mirrors...?

my mirrors seem allways to be hot, well warm...
can you turn them off?
should they not be thermostatic
I don.t think I.ll ever need them...
seems a waste of power
????

not really ? it needs the constant heat in order to make the mirror glass fall out !

They are permanently on whilst the engine is running or the ignition is on,not sure if they can be coded so they are off.
 
Old school BMW on all the time :thumbsup:

New only come on when temp get low enough which is a PITA trying to clear on a summers morning when covered in condensation unless you have autowipers as activating this turns them on (Although reduced heat due to air temperature).
 
The general module controls the heating power to side mirrors by altering the on/off cycle time. Temp signal presumably comes from the sensor in the front wheel well. It starts applying some power at 25C (!), increasing to 100% power at -10C
