Hot door mirrors

I've noticed that the heater on my wing mirrors are constantly on and the mirrors are hot to touch all the time not only when the rear window heater is on!

I assume this is not how it should be!

Any advice??

Wondering if it just a convertible 'feature' there may be some strange situation where you want the roof down but also the heated mirrors on. Turning the heater rear window on wouldn't be a great idea with the roof folded :?
 
Perhaps the coupe owners will test theirs out and advise if the mirrors heat up. Do the coupe owners ever open their windows though?

you mean the windows open :o
mine only heat up with the rear srceen on.

My 3 Series Touring does the same so I'm sure it's not a convertible thing.
 
This was covered only a month or so ago, if you look in your manual you will find they are on with the ignition, think you will find all BMW's are the same, my E46 were.

ON: Outside temperature < 3 degree C with hysteresis 3 degree C

OFF: Outside temperature > 3degree C with hysteresis 3 degree C
