Hose to thermostat HELP

So I’ve replaced my water pump and thermostat. I though all was well, it turns out this one hose I just cannot get to click into place. No matter how hard I push it just won’t connect. Is there something blindingly obvious that I’m missing?!

Hi Nick,

I have just done the same job, including taking the expansion tank out twice which also needs to remove the 90deg bend that connects on top of radiator and tank and it is a pain as well...

My technique has been to use one or two pairs of slip joint pliers (trying to get even forces at 180deg appart when using two) to bring the two parts of the conector together. I tried to apply the pliers where are the clocking features are located, circled in red here:

In order to make sure it went all the way in, I kept the metal clip in place (like on your picture) and sqeezed until it freely got into place. I felt like the pliers gave good control so it was less risk to break somehting despite the effort applied.

had it on other cars where it gets stuck ont he o-ring, with it been dry, so add a little silicon grease on it usually helps

All sorted. Cheers all. It just needed a bit of lube to help it in. :tumbleweed:
BMW tells you not to use any lubricant but I've found that using a little silicone grease is the only way to get the hoses on.

When hoses/bushes have been tight, Ive always used neat washing up liquid. It always seemed to help and I can't see that it would have any negative effect on the material.
