Horrible rough idle!

I've had a bit of a rubbish week, car wise!

This mornings, was going for a spin and the engine starting running roughly, so I pulled over. Now when I start it, the throttle blips between 900-2000 revs, sounding a bit "deeper" than usual, and the blip is very regular (every 0.5 seconds or so). Throttle has no effect.

Called the RAC and the guy came, plugged in his laptop and said it's thrown up 4 faults but can't tell what it is. He reckons it's the air intake sensor.

Waiting for a flatbed to take to the garage. FFS. Currently beside the road in the middle of the Peak District.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds similiar to what i am having now. Codes ran up Mass Air Flow and Lambda sensor.

Mechanic friend says its the bank 1 lambda sensor. Oxygen intake becomes an issue as the dodgy sensor overcompensates apparently. Mine is running just under 1000 revs on idle and sounds very clunky like a mis, fuel economy has also gone to pot and loss of power in low revs. These are all common faults of a lambda sensor failure apparently.
Switching my bank 1 sensor today and seeing how I get on, might be worth a try for you too...

i'm sure that's a common problem and something to do with the breather pipes and or CCV (Crank Case Ventilation)

Not heard that idea yet! Any further information?
 
Verdict from the specialist is the throttle body is bust.

Quoted me just over £300 inc parts labour and vat.

Money I didn't want to spend, but less than I feared...
 
Erm... bust? How?
Get him to explain it to you properly. What is he replacing and how he determined the fault?
 
Corroded and preventing proper regulation.

It definitely sounds like an air regulation/leak/mix problem that the ECU is trying (and failing) to regulate.

We'll see. They're not having any money til I see it fixed, either way!
 
I had problems with my Throttle body error code p1633 paid £200 for a new one fitted it myself and it fixed it.

There is a plastic gear in the throttle body mine had broke. So the body worked fine but would not close fully. So if i manually closed it cleared the faults and started the car it worked fine. But the gear being broke it couldn't close by itself.
