Horn blowing when braking or going over bumps

I have been noticing that when I am coming down a bumpy hill and braking to make a turn, my horn starts going off and it is real embarrassing. I read that Boxsters have the same problem and it is worn contacts behind the airbag. Anyone have the answer how to fix this? :headbang:

Maybe its a loose connection on the horn itself?

On mine the horn is behind the front bumper drivers side... Maybe the bumps+ turning is causing rubbing on the wheel lining pushing some contact on the siren?

When I used to work abroad we would quite often wire the horn to the brake pedal on the hire car to wind a particular driver up (he was never amused) Always a good laugh :D
Sorry back on thread.....

Welcome to the forum!

There's actually a horn on each side of the bumper. Obviously faulty wiring somewhere. But where? Could be the horn relay behind the fuse panel. Relays never seem to be 100% reliable. Or the wiring could have been attacked by a rodent and is shorting to ground somewhere. As an intermittent fault, it's going to be hard to find.

If it's making you crazy, try pulling fuse 37. Don't think it powers anything else. Of course, your horn won't work when you want it to.

We'd also like to see what your car looks like. Post some pics!

I had this same problem on my wife's 04 2.5i the problem was the horn connectors behind the airbag, the spring had worked its self loose and was not keeping enough tension on it. Each time she went over the proper bump the horn would blow, and like you said it was rather annoying.

Remove the airbag from the steering wheel and check the horn connections you might be in for a little surprise, its an easy fix though.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery for 30mins before you play with the airbag to avoid warning lights... Or more
