Hood won't open

The yellow oil light came on when I switched my engine off, probably because it's due an oil service in 2750 miles.

I wanted to check the dip stick so I pulled the lever to unlock the hood but nothing happened :o

Can I get the hood open any other way??

I assume you mean 'bonnet' as we're on the right side of the pond...lol

They become very stiff and the lever reaches the end of its travel. I suggest ask someone to press the front centre of the bonnet down (get someone you trust not to lean on it and bend it) while you operate the release lever. That should ease it enough to open.

Once open grease the mechanism under the bonnet

Ha ha - yes, bonnet. Moments before posting I'd been watching the '07 video review' someone posted in which the guy said "let's get under the hood" :D

Mine can be quite stiff (ooer! ) have you tried pulling it firmly.

Earlier I did just that but no luck. This time I did the same and wiggled the lever a little and up popped the bonnet.

I've applied some WD40, will add oil/grease later.

Thanks guys

I might know what happened because something similar happened to me. If the problem persists you may have a problem that is not a matter of greasing the latch. I managed to get mine to pop up but after some time it eventually seized.
Inside the latch is a spring which will come off the place it is supposed to be. What I had to do is remove the front grills reach in and after some pulling and prying it popped open. I then had to remove the large plastic shroud piece in front to expose the latching system. When I looked at the spring and the latch I noticed a spring coil came off the rod that is supposed to hold it. With a flathead I pushed it back into place and from then on I have had no issues.

Thanks for the info JetBlackZ. If I don't see an improvement after the oil I'll try to take some pre-emptive action like you suggested so I don't have to take out the grills.

Update: After the WD40 I tried the bonnet a few times today and it's now fine. Added some oil anyway, but it seems to be fixed.

Thanks for the help guys
