Hood trims

Been browsing at roadsters lately and noticed that not many have the hood down trim finisher pieces that cover the hinges. Are they supplied with the car or extras or manufactured accessories by another firm?

'Top down side covers' are rare and only available second hand therefore prices are very high for what is essentially a bit of plastic. Budget upwards of £150 - I've seen them go for circa £250 !

3d print has been talked about for ages, but its only talk so far - one member tried and failed to mold them by casting the originals, no one has succeeded to replicate them as yet.

Could someone scan them with their smartphone?

Here's a list of apps: https://www.aniwaa.com/best-3d-scanning-apps-smartphones/

I’ve got a friend who professionally works on 3D print who is intrigued by this.

I’m keen to try something out but don’t own the trims myself! I see from previous messages on other threads that previous lends of this item have gone wrong and they never got it back.

He’s Midlands based and I’m south London. He has access to a high res scanner which would get a good CAD model done and then can get started prototyping on my E85. Alternatively if I could meet up and try get a lesser res using an app based scan solution then that’s an option?

I know many have tried and failed to produce this part before!
