Hood squeak - removed latch - still there. Any ideas?

I had the well documented squeak from my hood when it was down, which came from the central latch. My garage played with the mechanism and managed to stop it completely. Unfortunately after a short period it came back, though not as loud as before. I removed the latch brackets but the squeak is still there.

I don't know what to do now. I have previously lubricated all the visible parts of the hood mechanism. Presumably there are other parts of the mechanism that are hidden under the hood lining. Can ayone tell me how to access these?

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

If it's the chirping budgie on the left shoulder then this is worth a look if you haven't tried it, sorted mine 100% cured with thanks to the Bing'meister

Just for the record, that mod above did cure some squeaking, but not all - glad it worked for some of you

What Tommy has done is (I think) what cured all squeaks from the roof for good. If the latch itself is still there, I found that the plastic covering it had worn away and was causing a metal on metal squeak. I wrapped it all round with little bits of sticky backed felt (same stuff used in the thread above) and it fixed it. I've searched, but it would appear I didn't take any pictures though, and my new car is a later build and doesn't have the latch, sorry :headbang:

It is indeed the chirping budgie! The latch itself is still there, I just removed the brackets - so I'll try some felt on that first. If that is the cause is it practical to remove the latch altogether?

I looked at removing the latch - I think it can be done, but I got to the point where it *appeared* I would have to start dismantling much more of the interior to get at the fixings, so I backed off and had a wee think. Eventually the felt rubbed through and needed replaced, but that's no big deal, and actually just proved that was the place where it was rubbing.
