Hood roof canopy replacement advise

G' day all.

I've had a search on the forum but havent found a topic on this yet.

My roof got slashed last year and Ive repaired it with glue, has worked well but now in the position to replace it.

So my question, can you remove just the outer material and replace it with another used one from a donor car?

If so, has anyone seen a walk through guide on how to do it?

Hi Sam,
I have heard of people doing it, but having changed lots of roof motors and had numerous roofs out myself, it's not a favoured route to go down. You would find it a lot easier to pop your roof out and a new one back in. ( I have done this for a member on here whose roof was slashed)

Its possible to pick up a perfectly good 2nd hand roof for about £250 GBP and with that you'll more than likely also gain a roof motor attached. You then have the choice to swap your motor or used the attached and sell the other (c£100). Then a good going over with a hood renovation product and it will look like new.

Changing the canvas is a real pain as there are all sorts of cable attachments, sensors, etc between the outer skin and inner lining, plus rivets and tension fixings to the hoop.
 
As above, change the whole thing - It's a PITA of a job changing the fabric. I did it once on my Stag, and that was a mare getting it right. Can see the Zed being a lot worse of a job.

Swapping the roof is a couple of hours if you've not done it before, last one took me half that on my own. It's doable on your own, but having someone to help lift it out is a bonus.

If you do end up doing it alone, get a quilt or sleeping bag securely fixed over the boot/rear wing tops, and put a piece of ply or the likes over it, then you can "roll" the roof out and onto the boot lid without fear of damage.

I had my roof fabric replaced by Monsoon Carhoods. The book time was quoted as 8 hours. They managed to do it in about 7.

It's a very complex job, so it's more economical to purchase an entire roof and replace the whole lot. The only reason I didn't us because I wanted red roof fabric. Cost me about £900 total.

Indeed. And that's the only reason I would ever look to change just the fabric, for a bespoke colour.

I dont suppose theres a write up for the full roof replacement that anyones aware of? I'll start googling!

There one on here somewhere. It's actually alot simpler/quicker job to do than you might think.
