Hood re-dying

hi guys,

Has anyone dyed / restored their hood, I've got my new Z and the hood could do with a dye colour. I've been quoted £400 inc Vat, is this about right?

Any suggestions of where I can get this done in the south (I'm in Brighton, Sussex).

Or anyone used a renovo kit and done it themselves?

Cheers

Hi Nick

THink there have been mixed reviews with the renovo kit. £400 seems excessive though to me. Mr. Wilks did his recently with good results using shoe polish IIRC.

Have used the Renovo kit - results were pretty good, but any "shiny" marks stay shiny. The trick was in the prep as you must remove all waterproofing and dirt from the roof. You also need to ensure you mask up all the non-roff bits well, as the stuff is a bugger to remove once its dried!

Its easier to do this inside as well, as it needs to dry properly and, like all paint jobs, be free from dust/pollen/insects/cats...

(the pot was always on an unpainted bit....)

Thanks guys, I think this is going to take some planning. I've found another company near me (lewes) who can do this for £250. Though I'm going to give this a go myself first and if that doesn't work, I'll take it to this place.

I've also spoken to a friend who re-did his Audi and says it came up very nice. It's offered to help too.

I'll post up some pics once I've had a go :D

Post some pics of how it is now Nick ,
Does it just look faded out or marked from folding ?
Green mossy around the edges & under the rear lip ?

I did indeed & i was round at my parents today & it passed my dad's inspection with a  (think PVR but older  )
It works a treat & the car took a lashing last week in Scotland , , was drenched for much of the time  colour is still very good but i noticed a lack of beading on it so a product is in dispatch & should hopefully land tomorrow  i'm hoping it will resemble a ducks back once applied but will be giving another coat of dye first

would tent stuff work?

I wouldn't apply any sealer / waterproofer whatsoever to yours until you got the colour back  a really easy task that should take about 1hr , , you need to give it a good hoovering before cleaning it well , then colour , then when happy apply your chosen waterproofer .

i hoovered it on Sunday, its come up quite well but a re colour would look great, just not sure what product to use

Ive done it with this car & with the Z3 Z4 & 330Ci that i had last year
Autoglym hood kit & use the cleaner then add one of these to the sealer http://www.amazon.co.uk/Punch-Shine-Liquid-Polish-Black/dp/B005VONIDQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432665970&sr=8-1&keywords=black+liquid+shoe+polish & spray all over multiple times if necessary

Well my roof is a mess after using a Renovo kit and I'm desperate to get the colour back :( it's been re-done 3 times now and looks great when it's goes on, but when it dries it looks awful

I used the Renovo Dye with good results a few years ago

I think the key is to make sure the roofs maga clean and has no protectant on it at all, then it should be fine.
