Hood Problems - Just Bought The Car...

Hello everyone, just signed up for this forum as Head Office (The Girlfriend) has finally bought the car of her dreams, a 2005 Z4 2.0. and this website looks like a useful place to visit on a regular basis.

However, my first post is not one of introduction unfortunately, its to ask advice about a problem she's had with her roof - which I may have been involved in.......... here's the story:

She phoned me in panic yesterday when she was leaving work as her roof had failed to go down (for her sunny drive home) and I must admit I was pi**ing around in the boot the other day, playing around with various things (as blokes do) I inadvertently raised the shelf to its higher level and this was up when The Blonde tried to lower her soft-top. Has this stopped the roof working ? Obviously I have now lowered this 'shelf' back to its original (lower) position but the top still does not want to come down, although it will un-latch itself from the the top of the windscreen surround. I can also hear the motor working (fuses all ok as well)

I also pulled the red plastic 'handle' as the same time I was pi**ing around in the boot - has this repercussions as well ?

Any thoughts (apart from me being a d*ckhead) or advice would be welcome, she's not happy at the moment :-(

Thanks in advance.

Nick

The Red handle is a bypass for the hydrolic fluid for the roof mechanism and if the shelf isnt in the correct position the roof wont retract...so yes your tampering can and probably will of stopped the roof working...allthough both are easily rectified.

the red handle needs to be turned by 90degrees and pushed back into its holder. Make sure that both sides of the shelf are down and it should work again..

and next time.... don't mess.... :D

Hahaha welcome to the forum; don't you just love it when you play with all the shiny new buttons and something stops working... I bet you were popular last night

Hmm, I wonder if that is what was wrong with the roadster I didn't buy, at least the dealer had no clue so maybe a good miss anyway.

Oh and BTW Welcome Nick, and .....

:worthless:

Andi.

Welcome Nick, I hope you no longer in the dog house and have managed to get the zed's roof working once again. I did a similar thing when I first purchased my Z4 and played with the height of the shelf, then saw red when the roof would'nt lower. Even rung dealer in a blind panic oops  No handbook at the time and the dealers never told me,well thats my excuse

Morning everyone - wow, just came on here quickly this morning to have a quick shifty at any possible replies before I trundle off to Head Office's place to start my 'fiddling' with her hood and the number of replies is amazing ~~ thank you all so much. I will act on the advice and let you know what's happened later.

As it's 7:20 on a Saturday morning, you can guess how serious this is !!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend

Nick

Nice to hear and welcome :) !

Welcome Nick...you have lost some points there though I think.
At most "Head Offices" a running score is kept, dip down too far and there will be trouble :(

Welcome, glad it got fixed and Head Office didnt have to make any drastic redundancies.
