Car been collected today, but are a bit cagey as to whats actually wrong.
Still she can get the misfire fixed that occurred Monday.
They claim thats a exhaust solenoid.
I think she's finally fallen out of love with the car.

Update; 4/06/14
Exhaust Vanos solenoid replaced and a Hall sensor, don't know which one but mean to find out for future reference.

Same thing happened to me today .First time out this year decided to drop the hood all was well until the rear window section was positioned on top of the main roof ,then it all stopped I could here some motor wiring away but nothing moved. Went to the close button and it went through the close procedure.tried again and it worked but I got some warning flashes on the dash showing the roof. So I guess there is a problem.

Sounds exactly like my experience a couple of months ago.

The dealership is still making feeble attempts to deny that this (along with adaptive dampers and type 296 wheels) are more than one off failures. I would walk away if I wasn't in a finance agreement - the only way BMW will let me out of that is to enter a new agreement so either pay more or pay for longer.

To be fair to BMW they do at least fix everything under warranty you just have to hope you have a competent dealer and preferably one that has their own courtesy cars as you will need them regularly!
