Hood problem - advice please

Okay have yet to even take delivery of my new (to me) Z but I am being told that the roof has a fault.
The roof opens but then has to be shut manually?
Who would people recommend in Kent (or London / Surrey borders) for a reasonable repair. Trusted people.
2.2 on an 05 plate. Should I buy at a reduced price or walk away?
Thanks in advance.

£500+ repair assuming the motor is on it's way out or walk away. It's not a quick easy fix, but a couple of regulars on here will do the job.
I'd test every single switch and button. Aircon, windows, audio, etc.

A garage will charge you £500 - 800, but if you search the forum you will see members are now getting the pump moved from it's dumb location in the roof cavity (and drain) behind the seats to the boot, which usually salvages the pump and will cost hundreds less depending on who does it.

Whilst it's tempting to say get them to drop the cost of a full garage repair and get the cheaper move repair done, I'd suspect a car being sold with a neglected roof fault is quite likely to have other problems. I'd want a really competent examination by a pro or knowledgeable friend before committing, your call :|

EDIT just crossed with CJ 8)

Changing the motor yourself is do-able with a spare weekend and an extra pair of hands if you're okay with a spanner.
I wouldn't necessarily rule out a car due to the roof not working if you can get it for a good price and it's mechanically sound.

Checking the MOT history online may give you a better indicator of how well it's been looked after along with the usuals and service history.
If you haven't got one buy an OBD scanner and check the car for any fault codes too.

Haven't attempted it myself but I wish I knew about it when I had my roadster :-( Check this out http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=85266

Where are you based OP? Durham Dave or even Ducklakeview might be a better/closer option.
