Unfortunately my hood motor has gone the way of so many and died. I wondered if anyone had one they wanted to part with or alternative knew of anywhere to buy a good refurbished one or new one. :)

You could try to refurb it yourself (depending on how far gone the electric motor is):

Have already tried but godfather says com has gone. As a result spins well but needs a fraction of a turn to start it off. Obviously this can't be done when hood in place :x

Yes that is a symptom than 1 of the rotorpoles doesnt get any current (commutator may be gone, copper winding may be shorted etc.)
What you might try to do is pry with a little pin/screwdriver between the commutator plates. The commutator consists of a few copper plates (just as much as there are rotorpoles) on which the brushes run. Through 1 of the 4 holes you can see the slots that seperate the comm poles:

those slots should not be clogged with debris from the brushes etc because that can short circuit 2 poles and might cause similar symptoms.

Too bad there is no decent way of opening the motor, or seperate the base of the hydraulic pump from the motor. Both are press fitted and may not fit again when torn apart.

Also getting a new (seperate) electric motor would be difficult (with exact the same specs, shaft diameter/fitting etc)

This motor runs fine, but a new motor will surely run better and longer. The commutator and brushes take quite a beating when running in water.
