Hood maintenance

Hi there this is my first Z4 and first rag top. I wondered if anyone can tell me how to keep the hood in good condition and how to clean it as my car as to stand outside 365 days a year..Cad :D

Hi Cad

I used to use Johnsons baby shampoo and a nail brush.

Rinse the hood with water, till its soaked. Put some shampoo in a bucket and apply with the brush using a light circular motion.
Rinse with clean water till water runs clear.

That's it...

I have the BMW cleaner too! also purchased Renovo Ultra Proofer which seems to be pretty good :D

I've done one AG treatment and was pretty unimpressed with the results ... I will be trying something else after treatment '2

That AG stuff seems to be working on mine, but how do you keep it off the windows and paintwork when applying ? Towels ? Had a hell of a time cleaning the provider off my glass afterwards :x

I last treated mine with AG months ago, took this pic Tuesday morning that I was going to put on the beading thread...

I pour some into a pot and apply it with a paint brush

I trap a couple of thin single bed sheets in the doors

Makes sense - do you lay one across the windscreen and another over the boot too then ?

I use Ragg Top ..
They offer a two can kit which includes cleaner followed by a conditioner / waterproof spray.
You can read up on their claims if you are curious, and yes I do understand that the cloth cover does not need to be waterproof, but I do appreciate the water beading up and running off the cloth top.

When I was detailing the Zed (AKA for hanging out in the garage)
I cleaned and siliconed the docking mechanisms as there is a roller that has the potential of sticking,
Next I lubed any other 'docking' areas with electrical silicon grease (just to keep those ares flexible ..
Lastly I used white lithium grease on any of the roof mechanical joints ..
ie Raise the roof and carefully spray, making sure to wipe of any excess.
The roof slowly retracts so this might take several attempts to complete.
Make sure you dust any exposed crevices..

The top looks great and the mechanism runs like a hot knife through butter...

Bumpy

ps ..Top looks like the one above ... I do it twice a year
