Hood issues

Ok 3'rd thing :x

I have a question. I have a 03 Z4, when you lower the hood you can still move the hood upward. I thought on the 03 year cars there is a center latch to stop this.

The question I have is how does this latch work, there is nothing sticking out to hold the hood in place, when you puch the manual release a tongue come out, which I kind of thought would be the bit that hold the hood in place.

I know there is a TIS on this issue http://www.bmwtis.net/tsb/bulletins/bul ... 40302g.htm but my issues is I can't see anything that would even hold the hood down if it worked.

Or is it the hood is not 'locked' down at all ?

Ok, dealers had the car today and it's the latch that is broken so a new one required. Part is £32 with about an hour and a half to fit. :o

No gonna cost about £120 with the window stuff as well. Weather here is bad and lack of time off work means dealer was my best quick fix...

The console needs to be removed to get to the bolts. It took me 20 minutes to get to the point that I could have removed the latch

Can you be more specific about which bit of the latch was broken? Was it on the hood or car?

I've had hood latch/squeek issues related to that exact point since I purchased the car and have run several different fixes with varying success including modifying the release tongue. Currenlty the harttop is on so all is quiet until Spring...lol

Yes, it's the latch on the car in the middle of the console.

If you lowered the roof you could still lift the roof after. I had 1st thought it was the roof folding issue which is documented on this site.

The roof just wouldn't latch at all and the manual release did appear to have anything to unlatch.

As to how it's broken I don't know, I doubt I will get to the dealers this week so may never be able to find out.

Sounds like the labour charge is about right though.

Thanks All

Interesting as I have never actually found anything that the hood latches onto, just the release mechanism in the top of the console.

The hood itself appears to have a 'claw' sort of fitting on its leading edge but nothing to lock down onto the body
