Hood alignment (height adjustment)

I remember seeing a link to how to adjust the height of the hood at the four corners. I remember the two front adjusters had a plastic type nut that just rotated about a quarter turn. That unlocked the height screw. What I don't remember is, does the screw adjust up and down by turning it or does it just pull or push up or down followed by turning the big nut back to lock it? It's hard to tell by looking at it. :?

On my 2007 3.0si, the hood in the front 2 corners is adjusted by removing a screw that attaches a black plastic block around the silver metal loop. Screw is removed, black plastic piece is removed, and the silver metal loop has the threads into the hood, and you rotate that by 180° one way or the other to adjust the position. Put the black plastic piece back on and attach with screw.
