Honeymoon opinions

So I'm getting married a year to the day! (not sure the most appropriate smiley to insert - ranges from nervous panic to happy and excited!!)

All our wedding plans are going well other than the honeymoon, so I thought I would ask the ever helpful forum for some general recomendations and advice.

For info we will be looking to go soon after the wedding (maybe early June). We're not massively adventurous so anything like trekking or backpacking is out. Other than that anything will be considered!

We went to Couples resort in Jamaica. Ok it was 19 years ago but it was great and wouldn't hesitate to go back tomorrow. Food and drink 24hrs a day and all included, learnt to scuba dive (included) very friendly people and very safe and a beautiful country.

Im sure you will have a great time wherever you go.

I can offer two pieces of advice for honeymoons:

1. Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean are very good - couples only, good food, all inclusive, very informal, water sports including diving included. Have been to Negril in Jamaica and to Antigua.

2. Take the wife :D

GLWTW.

We had same dilemma- getting married at the start of Aug this year :D :o We thought about various places like the maldives etc but when we went to the travel agent and she asked what we wanted out of a honey moon (5* all inclusive, good range of restaurants, guaranteed sun etc)
When we discussed this she showed us a resort in Turkey which ticked all the boxes and more! Never even considered Turkey but this place is beautiful.
I'd say set a rough budget and decide your must haves and go to a travel agent.

Got married on the 11th April and now planning our proper honeymoon (We did a mini moon straight after but only 5 days due to work commitments). We're the same. Nothing to adventurous but something different. We've decided on flying to NY for 5 days then driving down to Miami for 7 days, driving up to the parks in Orlando for 3 days and then down to the keys for 7 more days. This way I get to drive, I want to hire something fun and hopefully classic but it's not too adventurous.

Good luck in your search, I know first hand it can be daunting.

OMG Roundozo it sounds fantastic but you will be spending days in the car driving back and forth. why not start NY then Orlando - Miami - Keys,

Its great to drive out there but its also great to relax, My father in law lives in Kissimmee and we go every year and i love the driving about, but you are talking about a serious road trip.

Anyway have a fantastic time.

Could do a lot worse than the Maldives.

Went here last year - was very relaxing

Thanks for all the replies - except Jonny and Jimbo

We did intially talk about doing a driving of the States...but when it dawned on me I'd be doing nearly all the drving i went right off the idea!

Carribean is high on the list so great to hear some positive first hand recommendations.
Might also suggest to her a two-stop holiday like Florida-Hawaii.

How long did you go for Jasey? The only thing that puts me off the Maldives is that i might find it too remote and get bored over 2weeks

OOOPS - Mauritius not Maldives

We did 10 days.

Went on 1 trip to see the Island - spend the rest of the time relaxing in the hotel grounds (which are quite extensive).

Could have stayed for a month tbh.

I usually like to have plenty to do on holiday but wanted to chill - and you certainly got that.

Took the VIP Beach package which included a sun glass cleaning service

been a while since I've been on such holidays...

Honeymoon was Australia (Sydney, Uluru and Cairns) with a stopover in Bangkhok on the way and Singapore on the way back...
since been to Bahamas (sandals - bliss) & croatia for chill out hols

If you are considering the Caribbean, I went to Aruba last month (with the wife) staying in the Ritz Carlton, absolutely loved it. Fantastic local restaurants, beach bars, beaches and scenery were incredible. Only issue was flying from London via Miami - the immigration is Miami is a complete fluster-cluck. If I was going again, I would go via Amsterdam as they fly direct to Aruba on KLM, so no US stopover needed.

They have all the usual activities, we did a bit of snorkelling, sailing, motor boats, and drove some dune buggies (pretty dusty, that one).

Spent a fair few days in this position:

How long are you going for? Do you prefer somewhere long haul and maybe remote or would consider something nearer? I know nothing about honeymoons but pictures of Santorini, one of the Greek islands look heavenly. Because its a European flight you could spend the money you save on travel to stay somewhere mega exclusive. Maybe someone on here has been there and can comment?

21st May is a great date, was ours 4 years ago & always seems to be sunny on that day - celebrating out in a local restaurant sipping champagne in their garden soaking up the evening sun.

Wherever you go, it will be amazing and memorable. We did Singapore & Bali for ours & cannot wait to go back!

Were going to Cuba next month for our honeymoon, I wanted to do Cuba / Mexico / Carribean or Malaysia / Aus / Singapore

Chose Cuba as its unique, wanted to go before all the americans get there and it offers a mix of culture and relaxation (5 days in Havana, 5 days in Varadero)
