As most of you know I work for Honda and we are now getting drip fed information on the 2015 Honda Civic.

2.0 iVtec turbo
320-340bhp
Front wheel drive
5 doors
Price expected to be £31,000 (ball park)

I almost took a deposit on one today but the guy lost his bottle lol!

Thoughts??

" Thoughts" :o you did ask :P
£31k for a front wheel drive jap car that looks like a toy that comes free with a box of Frosties  no way from me ! not ever !!
300+ BHP in a front wheel drive would bother me from the off , depreciation & the rear end would bother me even more
" Honda" as a brand sum,s up 3 thing,s for me
1) decent generators
2) fantastic motorbikes
3) dull & dreary car,s that are pretty tedious after the first few days ownership / based on a 57 plate Civic i had on hire for 2 weeks / woeful in every way

Sorry mate if my "thoughts" didn,t match your,s but i don,t see anything in Honda cars that indicate i would ever want one

No doubt a total pocket rocket. I do enjoy a good fast hatch. but the body kit is totaly not my cup of tea. Mk1 still the best looking.

I welcome all opinions, first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Honda is reliability.

Unfortunately when this comes out my M won't be that fastest car on the staff car park.

Ps I love new civic and CRV (for what they are)

Holly dit! I bought my Type R GT with quite a few extras for £17k back in 2007. Not sure it commands 31k now! It'll be interesting to see what the die hard type r nuts think as the n/a engine was a beast but we know the eu emissions stuff etc has caused all this.

I do like the car still but that's way off the mark price wise. Also the biggest bug with all Hondas has been the paint. I'd like a bit more microns as they so tend to skimp on it.

Residuals on that will be hideous too. Unfortunately, shouldn't look at it like that but for me I'd rather have a Type R new knowing how it will be driven.

Is it really that way off the price guys? A golf GTI with a few ticks will hit that. My girlfriend's mini cooper SD with all its options smidged over 26k ....., a JCW mini will easily nudge 30k. When the focus rs came out, they were on forecourts for around 30k also. So although I wouldn't pay that for a civic , the price is in the right ball park IMO.

Car looks a beast! I was chatting to someone from the plant in Swindon and he was very excited about this!

It'll look loads better in the Yuasa livery than the barge they are running in this years BTCC.

The thing is the Civic was always priced to be less than the competition which also made it more attractive against the competition. A Ford Focus ST which was always more expensive than the civic starts at £21995! Just out of curiosity what's the target market for this new version. I know last time it was mid 30s professional males.

I always found it mad that FN2 drivers complained about it only being 4 seats and 3 door only. For me is rather have a 3 door over a 5 door but 5 door civics have become uber practical and the boot space. I get excited at that!

I reckon the price is about right too. FWD and 300+ BHP isn't the concern it used to be. The Focus RS handled it ok and the new VXR Astra, latest limited edition Megane etc are all knocking on the door of it. I imagine performance will be pretty superb too. I'd like to see how it measures up to the M135i, Golf R, Cupra, S3 etc.

I'd rather buy a Honda than a lot of makes. At least it will work for mile after mile, year after year and actually do what it is supposed to. They know a thing or too about motorsport too...dreary cars those Honda powered F1 cars - never won anything, so were the NSX's, S2000's, Integra Type R's etc. It's great to see them actually making something exciting again.

Mind you if I was after a hot hatch I'd still be searching for a nice Megane R26R.

Honda = as OG says, they will go and go and go... Bullet proof. And you don't need to tick many boxes with
Honda's to get a decent spec - when you're talking about a top of the range car all the toys come pretty much as standard (like most Japanese cars). Be interesting to compare the price of a standard spec Type R next to a 135i spec'd up to the same level...

It's totally bonkers looking, but I like it much more than the last one... Even though that's just a concept, right ? If you like Jap cars then it's totally in the mould of what a proper tuned eastern mentalist should look like.

My point is that cars usually get a *bit* more expensive but this is a good £10k more over the cost of the FN2. It may put off those who already have a FN2 and would look to upgrading.

Honda will need to do something very special with the front wheel drive set-up to achieve a 0-60 time in around 5 seconds.

I think it's cool for that class of car and the price is spot on with its rivals, hope they keep the rear light/spoiler setup though.
Whether it's a seller depends on whether it maintains the "vtech" tech and dips under 8mins for the ring. Also Honda reenters F1 next year.

Personally it's a touch too much for what it is considering you can get a lot of car for £30k these days, but if i was in the market for a fast hatch, or presented with a choice as a company car for instance, I'd take one in nighthawk black

CTRs were OK, depending on the model. The FN2 was a step back from the all-time perfect EP3.

What's the rear suspension setup on this one?

Would still be the best car there.

(intended to be as subjective as possible)

Couldn't agree more. I owned a CRX VTI then an Integra Type R then an S2000; the missus currently drives a Civic. The only thing I ever found boring about them was how boringly reliable they were. Nothing ever went wrong. Incredible.

I like it!
Although for a second I did think it was a bit Nissan Juke-like from the side!

I am a Honda fan too. My gf has a Jazz and it's a clever little car. Amazing what you can fit in it. And you can also play music and control your phone with a cheap USB lead. Something I'm very jealous of.

I do like the latest CRV, quite classy but the Civic just looks like a jellymold, always thought they looked dated as soon as they first appeared. Look even more dated now.

Tim.
