Holy Sh*t I think I've just bought my first Z!!!

Wahoo on both counts, hope it is a speaker and I thought the seats looked different to the one I test drive, like these a lot better! This guy must have had some cash (well he did trade this in to Porsche who probably gave him next to nout!).

What does the extra speaker actually mean - just the standard upgrade i.e. not the carver? now that would be nice!

Also - Am I right about the sport button?

Thanks guys. I'm never going to sleep tonight!!

Oh and good advie about the roof AL - will do that!

8) I can see the pics now, looks really nice.Hope it's a great car for you.Make sure you test the roof before driving off, make sure it's fast and smooth and not sluggish.

Not sluggish at all? Mine takes abour 2 seconds before the roof starts to move. :(
Just been to time it and from pressing the button to the red light going off is exactly 10 seconds.

This video seems to have a bit of a delay too (Ignore the foreign language :? )... Skip to 4:43 to see the roof race.

Hopefully you meant sluggish in that the roof moves quite slowly and not the intial delay or I might just go and cry a little. This was the only Z4 I tested the roof on. Stupid I know :headbang:

Think the roof has to release the catches from the window frame before it can move so a slight delay is fine

The above quote is correct  The first few seconds after pressing the open button the catches release, after that it should go down quite fast until another delay whilst the rear catch engages then the light goes out! If you time it as it starts to move then it's only a few seconds.

I've just checked on Parkers (ok, not the definitive source, but I can't find any better source for options) and the sport button to switch DDC(driving dynamics control) is present, supposedly, on all early 3.0's.

I also notice that they only show the 3.0 non SE for 2003 33 and 2003 53, so I guess they only made non SE 3.0's for one year!? I can't actually see any spec differences (quick browse) between the two generally, so are all 3.0's basically SE sports until the facelift where the flavours split into a seperate sport and SE!?

Thats all relying on Parkers anyway. I've been looking at classifieds for hours and can't work out what any car is meant to or not meant to have

I think I want every option on the list know I know they exist... evil BMW :poke:

Hi all,

Well I'm officially a Z4 owner!! :D Picked up the Z no problem yesterday and for good measure I also stopped off and picked up a practically flawless set of second hand set of ellipsoid's with F1tyres (5-6mm tread) and a spare ellipsoid for £300!

The car is immaculate, engine bay and 17"'s looks like new (they stuck on two brand new run flats as well). No speaker in the back but I'm very happy with the spec.

I have one slight worry though, so two questions:

- How much do you think I could get for the 17"s (think I'll wait until after Xmas) bearing in mind that they are in fantastic condition with two new run flats and good tread on the other two?

- More important, there was water in the boot. Now the guy said it had been washed several times over the last week but if I had any problems they would deal with it, is there anything I can check for here?

Thanks guys, photos to follow but it's too dam* cold to wash it at the moment!

Great news about the car, looking forward to pics.

If you paid 300 for the ellips, the 17s sond like theyre worth £250?

Hmm, I'd not be happy about the water, sound slike he may be fobbing you off. Doest atter how many times a car is washed it shouldnt bloddly leak! :poke: Get it back and fixed before the water damage spreads to the electrics and makes the car's interior smell musky.

Regarding the leak check the problems threads, might be something simple like clearing out the gutters so hopefully a simple fix you can do yourself :)

Yeh, thought that too - strange thing is that I checked it today (after the 5 hour drive yesterday) and the boot is now completely dry, a little bit of dirt and stuff in the compartment next to the battery area but that's it. Will see what happens after I wash it. There is no damp smell even though the car has been sitting for a few weeks and looks like it hasn't been driven much.

Will wait till after Christmas or winter to sell the 17"'s I think, prices may pick up too I suppose but around that price although the seller was desperate to clear room in his garage at £300. Cheers.

Glad you picked up your car OK and as said above should be bone dry in the boot washing will not cause that left my boot lid popped open once before washing the car and still bone dry inside would ring them ASAP to let the know your not happy rather than leave it to long fingers crossed its just a quick fix

Yeh - I told them at the time that I had noticed it and they told me that it would be covered under the 3 month warranty.

A few quick photies (although it needs a dam* good was I couldn't help my-self!).

Think I may have found the problem with the leak too, photo below (not to clear a photo) shows the third break light has a small piece missing with a small but big enough hole, which I imagine goes straight in to the boot??

Any advice would be appreciated, thinking about a small bit of silicone sealer?

Guess water might get in there if they were using a pressure washer, should be able to get a replacement quite cheaply. Some have put a clear rear brake light on instead too if that took your fancy. Probably ok in normal conditions to not let much water in left like that. Maybe just show the selling garage guys the picture and get them to send or just pay for the replacement rear light.

:D Well done glad you are happy! Wondered when your post would go up :driving: .As said there should be no water in the boot.I doubt very much if the 3rd brakelight would let water in. Where is the water sitting, is it in the battery tray?

Very nice  would get the stealer to replace that 3rd brake light free of charge why should you spend money on silicone.

Well done, hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine (that's a lot :D )

My brake light has broken in exactly the same place, though not qute so much. Iirc I've read a thread on here about it whereby stealers were notified by BMW that it was an issue if overtightened. I've not got round to doing anyting about mine.

well I don't belive it my car is in the garage!!!!! I hope this is not a sign of things to come but I have an oil leak!

Nipped down the shops and the oil light came on, checked the oil and it was down to minimum and there was oil on the ground. Went up to the local garage and they checked it and as I suspected the oil filter was to blame (just been serviced).

They started up the engine and when reved the oil came out of the filter, there was no seal on the filter - is this normal?!

Good news it's an easy fix but the engine bay at the bottom iscovered in oil. AArrgggggg!

They are fixing it tomorrow, off to email the dealer about both problems and make sure I get my money back....

Quite common sadly, heard about several different types of car having the same issue after a service from main dealers and specialists. Probably just cross threaded the filter or over tightened it and it has cracked. As long as you caught it which it sounds like you did then it should just be a new filter and refill the oil, hopefully just a minor issue and easily fixed.

That's good to hear, think you're right, just been unlucky I guess...does anyone know though if the oil filter should have a seal of any kind?

Glad you got the car you wanted. Seems you got most issues covered.

The brake light cracking there is a common problem and you should get it replaced by the dealer. They cost almost £50, so worth getting it done. The clear version is the same price from BMW and looks way better on Sterling grey so I'd 'upgrade'.

If you do it yourself renmoval is from the inside using a deep socket on 3 nuts. When fitting don't tightehn it much at all ont he springs, just enough to seat or it will crack again.
