Holy headlight hell batman

:headbang:

Ive a 2003 3.0i zed. With xenon headlights. I bet some can see where this is going now.

This drivers xenon is the reason my car is without an MOT. It wont light up.

New bulb. And I know the ignightors work as they both light up the other side. So this weekend I took the headlight out and changed the control module. The one I tried is used from a e60 they have the same parts code so I hoped it would be a cheap fix. It came with a 30 day warrenty.

Now i took the old module out and it was soaked with fizzy electrical juice wite foam stuff. I cleaned it as much as i could and tried the new module. nothing happened.

Now could this mainly be because of the electrical fizzing water just destroyed the connection or because the new module need coding to the car.

I am going to try the other module on the drivers side to make sure the headlight unit doesnt need replacing. Any thoughts would be so helpfull. please reply I need my car back asap.

Kind regards.

So bad to worse. tried swapping the modules over this morning to see if the unit does light up or if its time for a headlight unit.

And in a moment of utter stupidity i have stripped the bolt holding the good head light in. not the threads but the torx part stupidly using a t20 and not the t25 size . now I am left with one non working head light and a wobbly working one and still no legal car on the road.

And still no mot

I had a go with electrical cleaner today. still not working. I want to swap the module from the good headlight to see if I need a new head light unit but i stripped one of the torx bolts so now ive got to get that undone first.

If its just the module then i can order a new hella one and go from there.

does anyone know if i need to get these modules coded to my cars ecu or not?

One bolt. It will not budge i think its going to need drilling out. The bolt head is completely destroyed after I tried a sujestion of cutting a slot into it to get a flat head screw driver into it. That torx head I think is made from twiglets as it just started to crumble at the sight of a screwdriver.....

I am not having a happy time with my z4 at the moment.....

Where are you located? there may well be a forum member close to you that could give you a hand or who might have something to help out - for what its worth if the bolt head is on the surface dremel the head off remove the light then put mole grips or a pipe wrench on the bolt shank.

If Norfolk based if that helps :?

Thanks. Im in cheshire my car is on a drive in derbyshire atm because i dont have off road parking. I was going to take the head of last night but my last dremel cutting disk snapped as soon as i started. ive found a bolt extractor kit in screw fix i am going to try this morning though and go from there.

I am not having much fun atm lol

All fun and games eh!

If it's any consolation, the ballast units are known to fail if the headlight gets any decent amount of water inside, as it's right below so the water just runs through the plug into the ballast... Not the best design!

When mine went i opened it up and it was full of water, but had blown something on there

i got a recon unit from there been fine for over 3 years, dont get ones off ebay some are fake and the components inside certainly arnt HELLA ones
