Holidays

There seems to be a lot of well travelled folk on here so seems like a good place to ask.

I'm due a holiday and I've got 2 weeks booked off end of September-first week of October. I can't really make my mind up about where to go so I'm looking for recommendations.

I've never gone all inclusive before and I'm tempted to try it this time.

I'm going with my gf and looking for sun and good food. Budget is less than a grand each.

Cheers

Depends on flight time. Are you looking Long Haul i.e. Caribbean or Mid Haul, 4-6 hours?

We went to Dubai 2 years ago in Oct, awesome. around 30c not busy, great city. All inclusive try looking at Egypt, should still be pretty warm then.

I would try secretescapes.com i have booked multiple holidays with them... By far the cheapest for their packages and have holidays to suit most couples (not kid or single traveller friendly)

Recently went to thailand with them.... Pickup and drop off service and decent hotels.

Dubai is nice but two weeks would be too much for me as not keen on big cities but the beaches are good....7 days max is ideal there.
Egypt is a shite hole....been three times and that's enough for me. The hotels are lovely, but venture out and the place looks like it's been bombed!
Caribbean is rainy season then so you take a chance with the weather - Tulum in Mexico is lovely but might be a bit more than a grand each!
Cape Verde is OK and weather will be good, just not much to see when you get there.
Turkey is still warm but not hot so depends how hot you want it, there are some lovely places there not commercialised.
Morocco - same as Egypt

I just got back from two weeks in Tanzania. The first 6 days were spent hiking to the summit of Kilimanjaro, the a few days on safari then the beach for the remainder of the time. It was a blast and something I would highly recommend. Of course, you might want something more relaxing 8)

Sorry, I just saw your budget and it would cost substantially more to do the above trip.

Why not get a euro rail pass and try some cities? Berlin is amazing as is Barcelona. I think the first step is identifying if you want a beach or adventure type holiday first.

All inclusive isn't always the good idea it might seem. Sometimes you can get lucky with a great resort and not having to get your wallet out is very nice indeed, but it takes a lot of homework to find a great resort depending on your preferences and budget.

I've been all inclusive for the last three years - just the usual Turkey/Kos "4/5" star rated places. We paid £900/head) - In reality unless you are paying serious money these places tend to be little better than three star of old. The all inclusive experience gets very samey after a few days, food often repetitive, usually buffet fare meaning queuing up for your meals and it just doesn't feel special. Drink is often the local beer and wine - whilst the beer may well be ok the wine is usually goddam awful.

I'm going to stick with a nice hotel b&b as a base with a choice of restaurants nearby for my next holiday - probably Italy.

If you go AI try to get a short notice booking 5 star - you can get some great deals on newer hotels - and feel really smug that you didn't pay the brochure price

Concur with above, we did all inclusive in Rhodes a few we years ago and hated it, same restaurants every night with the same pushy obnoxious people who cant be bothered to say please or thank you to the staff so its villa's for us now and nice little taverns

Just back from Canada, did the Rockies Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper then two day train ride across to Vancouver loved it, scenery and wildlife fantastic.
Also plenty of Ferraris Lambo's and McLaren's in Vancouver 8)

Cheers for the suggestions gents.
I'm looking for something relaxed. None of this walking business.

It sounds like Turkey seems to be the best value for money at that time of year all inclusive. I popped into Thomas Cook and they offered 5* all inclusive, with 24 hour room service and fridge refilled everyday for 850 a head for 10 nights IIRC. Seemed decent to me.
