Having a slight holiday dilemma at home and was wondering what you guys an gals would do in such a situation.

It is my 25th wedding anniversary next year and my wife who is in love with Maine wanted to go there for a week so i have booked this http://www.mooselakecottage.com/mcnrentalhome.html, however we also wanted to take a week somewhere else stateside where we could take the family and had originally opted for a fab cabin in Georgia, but now the kids (17 & 20) are moaning saying it will be boring and nothing to do, in other words there are no clubs or pubs nearby and thought of coming marginally close to nature has them running for the hills. Now 2 years ago me and Mrs Nosa went to vegas and both the kids kicked off as we didn't take them with us, we were getting the "Ive always wanted to go there" Speech and the Your bad parents routine. So with this in mind we decided we would offer to take them to vegas this time instead of going to Georgia. We did not get the reception we expected, we are now getting the " just take us to somewhere where we arn't old enough to do anything why don't ya" speech :headbang: , So being the kind loving considerate parents we are we asked them where they would like to go ( bear in mind the youngest is bringing a friend and the eldest is bringing her boyfriend) Youngest " i want to go to California so i can meet movie stars" eldest i want to go to a greek Island" obviously the logistics of Being somewhere for a week then me and Mrs heading to maine for a week need to come into play here.
Would be gratefull for any suggestions before i tell both my kids we are gonna take them to Butlins in Ayr.

Plenty to do in Vegas under 21, just not drink or gamble...unless they have exceptionally good IDs...

Vancouver? a few hours from the mountains for outdoorsy stuff but the city has a beach...

L.A....have you seen the movie Training Day? Hollywood Boulevard is full of crack dealers and being there at night is like an episode of Cops with choppers above. During the day around Chinese Manns Theatre it's all tacky shops selling junk to tourists, cheque cashing stores and english people. Everywhere. To see anything decent you have to drive for 40 minutes in various directions...it's all very disconnected. The rich live in the hills to get away from the ghettos, and it just doesn't feel like I expected anyway....sorry to Los Angalenos ;) Maybe my trip was rough!

New York on the other hand is a fantastic city...and 'convenient' for Maine...

Or for something different, Cuba? Fascinating place by all accounts, lots of Canadians go (mainly to rub it in the face of Americans I think), not a million miles off track....

I spent a week on that lake in August 2001, it was great. But there really was nothing to do. There's an island in the middle of it... I burried a "time capsule" on it... not sure if anyone every found it. The email address I put in there has long since been abandoned!

We spent a few days in NY then Boston before hand.

Ta, We have been to Boston and NY before with the kids, fancied something slightly different, Giving the Cuba idea some thought.

I will see if i can find the time capsule and add to it, perhaps with a pic of the Zed :D

mmm - that would have been a fine prediction! The Z4 was still a couple of years away.

IIRC there was a pack of cards in there, some coins and stuff i fould lying round... nothing exciting. I think i put a letter in there too.

17 and 20 eh?

I'd have left them at home with sandwiches personally.

Fact is, in a resort that would suit their limited requirements, parents would be persona non grata anyway so why even try and meet them.....

Florida Keys? Cuba is excellent but not as good as it was in the early days....big culture shock if you get out and about, poverty is incredible in rural areas especially.

Or just leave home a home and do a week at Centre Parcs later with them....

Miserable ,ungrateful little b*ggers, :D :D ( only kidding - sort of). Leave them behind and just you and your wife go away, have a separate family holiday.Tell them that as they've been so negative and selfish, they're not going anywhere. This leaves you to have a nice time to celebrate your 25 years and the kids will have something to think about. There's plenty of time for family hols. Give the 20 year old some cash to go away on her own, she's old enough to arrange her own holidays, and the 17 year old would no doubt love some tickets to Glastonbury instead.Sorted......

Thanks guys for all the comments, situation is now kind of resolved, eldest IS going to go to a greek island with her BF and the youngest has now agreed (without any added pressurizing) to go to Georgia as long as we can make a trip to Nashville. i had kind of planned that in any way and i have also agreed to go to Georgia as long as i can take a day out to go to NC and take a ride along the Dragon. All i have to do now is convince Smokin it would be a good idea to take me along it in her Z4. :driving: :driving: :driving:

My mate said the exact same thing when he went out there.
