Hmmm unexpected consequence!

My car had the dreaded rev dip when the clutch was depressed such as when I traffic etc - did the TPS’s, ICV clean and throttle reset which alleviated the symptoms somewhat. I had the clutch changed on Thursday and low and behold the issue has gone!!

Simon, how many miles has your car covered and what pointed you towards needing a new clutch?

It has don’t 107k and I just felt the clutch was a little tired and occasionally would slip when hot and under pressure.

Just out of interest, would you mind sharing what you paid Simon ?

Hope it stays fixed

Ah ok. Very occasionally my clutch doesn’t quite fully disengage when the pedal is to the floor but it never slips. The gearbox doesn’t deny the change but it’s slightly notchy, or, if stationary, I feel the car try to move forward against the brakes as I engage first gear. It’s not frequent enough to be a concern yet but I suspect a new clutch +/- slave and master cylinder may be in my near future!

[ref]BMWZ4MC[/ref], I'd personally start simple by flushing the old fluid with new. It could be that the moisture content of the old expands with heat, or perhaps there are some air bubbles at some point in the line. Just a thought.

It’s often worse when it’s cold and it usually behaves itself when driven hard, but a good suggestion nonetheless. Unfortunately I’ve tried change the fluid and it hasn’t helped. It’s not a prominent enough problem to warrant chasing it too hard yet but I’m keeping a close eye on it.

You run a clutch stop don’t you Richard..? Or have you removed it.

Not that you wouldn’t have thought of that of course...

A few years ago I tried a clutch stop and drove with it for about three hundred metres before I was convinced of the importance of full clutch disengagement occurring before the pedal reached the end of its travel :P
